Yale - The best team in the country?

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

You didn't
need
to press
enter there buddy.
I wonder how you
became
a Doctor.

Thanks so much for crawling into the gutter and taking it ad
hominem. To answer your question, having 1586 on the College
Boards, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and having letters of
recommendations from two world-renowned doctors certainly helped.
Now..... try to stay out of the gutter!!! What praytell, is an
"occupational surgeon"? Oh, did I hit ENTER in the wrong place again?

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

If I may paraphase a popular Country Western song........... how do you like us now?

Congrats on winning the ECAC version of the Virg Foss trophy.
Although I'm not sure how well that will help you come March...

Well maybe next year you can be the North Dakotan South Dakotans. Then you can claim you have something cool like Mt Rushmore, the Blackhills or the Badlands.

North Dakota already has the Badlands. :p

All of that, and you don't even understand the concept of word wrap?

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

Someone today on Twitter said that Yale is the Boise State of college hockey. Point being that they may be one of (if not the) the best team(s) in the country, but since they don't play the strength of schedule that the other top teams play (Yale has the 29th most difficult SOS to this point, while UMD has the 4th most difficult and NoDak and Denver - 2-4 in the current KRACH - have the 1st, and 3rd most difficult (and, for the record, Bemidji State has the 2nd most difficult SOS, making quite the statement again about the depth of the WCHA, no?)), all they have to do is win that one big game (note today's win over Union) to "prove" that they're good.
Yep - the December 5th Pairwise will be referenced when the tourney field is selected :p

You cite the KRACH in your argument , but you fail to cite who the number one ranked team is in the KRACH rankings. Yale is ahead of UMD by 300 points and has double the amount of points of 3rd ranked NoDak.

You can freeze the pairwise today if you like,;) btw Bridgeport tix go on sale the thirteenth of December.

Someone on the Fan Forum told me the exact same thing once
before..... probably you. Trust me, if it were important for me to
understand the concept, I WOULD. I guess it's a very intricate topic
that is not taught in medical (or law) school. If I had only had the
good sense to become a retail systems technician........

This is why you'll never be an occupational surgeon.

I don't think you could understand it even if you wanted to. :)
You sure do think highly of yourself, which humors me greatly. :D
And thanks for reminding me of what my job was 6 years ago!

Yeah the crappy Badlands.

I've been to both...they're pretty darn similar. :)

I didn't know Yale gave doctorates in Life Coaching.........

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

flagdude...good call.

i fully expect to be vindicated around 1:30PM EST tomorrow...

Hey, I'm just glad that, even though we lost, we still gave your team a run for their money, unlike the shellacking on TV yesterday. Yale is still on top for the PWR, but I may wait for UVM before putting them at #1. At least sole possession of #2 without a doubt.

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

You cite the KRACH in your argument , but you fail to cite who the number one ranked team is in the KRACH rankings.

Because I was talking about SOS, not KRACH, per say. I could have included KRACH #5 BC to stretch things out as their SOS is up there too. In fact, I could have used every school in the top 18 (all the way down to CC) since their SOS is more difficult that #1 Yale (until you get to #19 KRACH Merrimack)...
Yale is ahead of UMD by 300 points and has double the amount of points of 3rd ranked NoDak.

Stop before you hurt yourself.

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

If Yale's resume, schedule, and outlook was applied to a team from Hockey East or the WCHA, this probably isn't even a question. The only reason this is a discussion is because they're out of the ECAC, pure and simple.

Don't take my word for it, look at the computer models - they're designed to be objective, not subjective. RPI? Yale's number one. KRACH (maybe the most objective model of all)? Yale's number one. Want to adjust KRACH for home-ice advantage (KASA)? Yale's number one. The HEAL method, developed at Maine? Yale's number one. CCHP, developed by Eric Carlson at UAF? Yale's number one.

There are a few computer models that don't have them in the top spot. Eugene Potemkin's rankings and St. Lawrence University's CHODR have the Bulldogs second in the nation, behind UMD and BC respectively. Then there's the recursive version of HEAL, which pegs Yale 8th, but many teams generally have an anomalous position on one or more models: Denver is 16th in the nation according to CCHP, for instance, trailing Merrimack. These models are not perfect - but taken collectively, they do serve as an objective barometer, and outliers on either extreme can usually be disregarded. The numbers don't lie: Yale is one of the best right now, and perhaps the best.

They have the best offense in the country by more than a goal per game. Their much maligned defense is now up to a tie for 9th in the country. That gives them an average scoring margin of +2.82, again, better than second place by more than a goal per game. They have the longest active undefeated streak in the country right now with five in a row. They've lost one game out of 11, a game in which they held a 3-0 lead late before the only real letdown of the season. I would be suspicious of a team with an average schedule (Yale's SOS isn't low by any means, it's roughly the national median) who was leading in all of these categories, but about equivalent of other top teams. Instead, their offense has blown the doors off. They are at the very least on par with the UMDs and UNDs of the world. If the only thing you've got to hold over Yale's heads is their schedule, you haven't got much to work with. If it wasn't for a 15 minute let down in a single game, this conversation is even more silly.

Does Yale have some goofy bandwagon fans popping up and making outlandish statements about their newfound eternal love? Yes, they do appear to. Don't let that cloud your judgment of just how good the Bulldogs are right now. If anything, perhaps the fact that they have a bandwagon is even more proof positive that every other indicator is ringing true.

Yale is one of the top teams in the country now, the question is are they THE top team? The reason their schedule comes into play is because it's easy to say they have the best offense, top defense and best record when you play lousy teams. Putting up 7g against an ECAC bottom dweller doesnt' mean you have the best offense.... they are still a top tier team but until they beat someone of consequence (and looking at their schedule that's going to have to wait until March) the recognition as #1 is going to be tough to get.

My thoughts exactly. Yale is likely a top 5 team right now. They'll likely get a shot to prove themselves in the big dance. That's the beauty of college hockey - you get to prove your team is #1 by beating four other great teams head-to-head under NCAA tourney pressure, and the best team does emerge, unlike some BCS computer that tries to rank schools from different leagues to get to a national champion in football.
