Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Wish I could, I am on a short leash, trying to save my cookie jar points for the Atlantic City sneak attack weekend. Anyone know if the games in AC are televised? Maybe Friday.
So........you're the one other guy that plans on going to AC. For most of us moving it to AC sounded the death knell for a multi-year consecutive streak of attending the ECAC Finals (regardless of who got in).

Amen, man. A series with QU or Brown would've been nasty. Hopefully the SLU guys can keep it clean, I'll be keeping an eye on Flanagan.

That one play at Ingalls was pretty much out of character for Flanagan. I actually think "Little Flanny" is dirtier than his brother. Historically SLU is a clean team that does like to skate. It will be clean but the guy to really watch out for is Wick, the kid hits better than Albert Pujols!!!! The winning goal for us in the Princeton game came off a thunderous hit by Wick that freed up the puck and let Essery score the game winner.

As to the Ylae spelling..........you have to know the story behind the story. It is not a SLUr or knock on Ylae. Many years ago before streaming video, B-2 networks and such, a core group of ECAC die hards used to listen to the games on the Internet Radio feed and while listening be in the "Yahoo ECAC Chat room". Whenever anything happened we would quickly type in a post. In our haste, Yale often got a typo spelling of Ylae and after all these years it has stuck. It's sort of an inside joke for those of us who used to listen and post in that old chat room. Take no offense from it. :D

Rumor on the street is Ylae only gave SLU 100 tickets for the games. Can that be true? We normally have a good turnout at Ingalls as their are a lot of SLU alums within close driving distance.

Here's to a fun, clean and fast skating series and hoping you don't blow our doors off.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

No students around this weekend, so I would be suprised if Yale only gave SLU 100 tickets.

One night in particular, somebody - I tihnk it was vicb - kept typing "Ylae" and trying to correct himself with a one-word entry of "Yale." But almost every time he did, he'd misspell it again. Eventually, every time anybody mentioned "Yale" for any reason, about five other people would type "Ylae." Stupid, but funny at the time, and it did stick.

Well the last eleven straight games have been sellouts at Ingalls, I would say the student crowd would have been around 300 kids max, not too hard to make that number up out of people off the street. Then they can get full playoff prices instead of discounted student tix, if such a thing exists. All about the bottom line.

YALE TIX STILL HOT

Yale drew 11th-seeded St. Lawrence for the best-of-3 quarterfinal series that starts Friday at Ingalls Rink. While it won’t quite be the same level of delirium of playing Quinnipiac or Harvard, matchups that could have happened had both the 11th and 12th seeds hadn’t advanced, tickets should still be a hot item.

The good news for area fans is that more tickets will be made available to the public — Yale students are on spring break — and there are still plenty of seats remaining. For now.

There were a bunch of SLU alums sitting near us at the regular season game at the Whale. Best way to get tickets is via Yalebulldogs.com - but LTsatch is right, the Whale has been sold out for every game in recent memory, and the non-student fan base will suck up any tickets the students don't nab. Looking forward to Friday!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

8 tickets at $50 each in GA on stub hub for saturday game. 2 seats on craigs list for friday's game for $30 each in section 8, row e , and there should be scalpers plying their trade outside Ingalls each night. Not much, but it's something

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Normal student/faculty section is 700-800 tickets. Still more than a few tickets available at Payne Whitney as of late this afternoon. No need for stubhub yet.

Crazy schtuff

Yale (#1-#3) - The only way Yale loses the #1 overall seed is by winning this weekend and then losing twice to TUC teams (Union, Dartmouth, Cornell) at Atlantic City. Win one there and they are #1. They can also secure #1 overall if they lose this weekend. St. Lawrence cannot become a TUC even by winning the ECAC Championship. If they lose twice they can fall as far as third if BC and UND win their league titles.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

It's not really that crazy. PWR takes no account of when you win or lose. That's why RPI (the school) is still holding on by a thread. Losses to SLU (by the way -- I really like "LSU") only cost us RPI -- they don't cost TUC losses. And to fall behind UND we'd need TUC losses (we're already behind in RPI) and to fall behind BC we'd need both RPI and TUC losses. Absolutely critical against UND was the game against Colorado College. That's our only common opponent, so since we beat CC we can't lose COp to them. (UND split their two games.) And Michigan is way too far behind in RPI for them to catch us. PWR is far from a perfect system, but the components aren't crazy.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Here is the Register's Bracketology this week....

BRACKETOLOGY

Here’s this week’s prediction for the 16-team NCAA field, based on the PairWise Rankings and other criteria that may be considered by the selection committee.

East Regional (at Bridgeport): 1. Yale vs. 16. Rochester Institute of Technology; 8. Merrimack vs. 11. Minnesota-Duluth

Northeast Regional (at Manchester, N.H.): 2. Boston College vs. 13. Dartmouth; 6. Union vs. 12. New Hampshire

Midwest Regional (at Green Bay, Wis.): 3. North Dakota vs. 14. Western Michigan; 7. Nebraska-Omaha vs. 10. Notre Dame

West Regional (at St. Louis): 4. Michigan vs. 15. Colorado College; 5. Denver vs. 9. Miami-Ohio

Yale will be in Bridgeport. That has already been determined. What has not been determined is the quality of the other teams in the Regional. If they enter as the No 1 overall seed, they get the 16 seed in the 1st round, which will be the Atlantic Hockey Champ. If they enter as the 2 or 3 seed, they can draw a much tougher 1st round opponent, and the overall quality of the draw will be tougher.

I remember that vividly....you had to be there. But, I could swear on my fading memory that it was TimU with the typos and not VicB. :)

I really like the LSU thing, but got another. We played at UMASS-Amherst several years ago and the PA Announcer there said it was UMASS 2 and the St. Louis Billikens 1 after the end of the first period. So, we are the Billikens as well (note: the other-SLU had a D-1 team but dropped it in the late 70's or so).

Go Billikens. Beat Ylae. :)

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Any interest in pregaming at Liffey's, Yale fans and out-of-towners? It's pretty close to Ingalls (walkable) and it's been a great supporter of the Bulldogs all season.

What's the story with Liffey's? I know many SLU fans are planning on going to Archie Moore's before Friday's game. Can you give a comparision of the two?

Archie's has amazing wings and good bar food. Liffey's has good pub food and has been a supporter of Yale hockey this season. You really can't go wrong. Although Liffey's is much closer if walking is an issue.

You could do one Friday and the other Saturday, but i don't think you'll have to worry about pregaming Sunday.

To answer this question correctly, I really need to know what time you guys will be arriving in town

Moores is a one level pub in a semi residential neighborhood with traditional pub food and excellent buffalo wings, on Fridays for happy hour it can be a mob scene with parking a very real concern especially if you are not from the area, if you get there before the happy hour rush, you will be fine, but the place only seats about 50 max at tables. There are no parking meters in the neighborhood to worry about. If there is no parking in the lot, look to the side streets off of Willow St. Coming from the north on I-91, get off Exit 6 and take a right at the end of the exit and Moores is about 1/2 mile on your left.

Liffeys is an Irish Pub in the basement and first floor of a commercial row near downtown New Haven, food is OK, atmosphere is young Irish cool, if you can figure the route and have the time to take two walks of about 1/4 mile I would park in the area of Ingalls or in the garage at Ingalls and make the walking trek to Liffeys. Alot of the parking near Liffeys and Ingalls is metered, you are at your own peril until about 4pm on Friday if you fail to feed the meter. Nights and weekends are free.

I love both places and they are really the only close walking options to the Ingalls Rink that I would consider.

Another good option would be to get into town around 3pm and hit Modern Apizza on State Street for some world famous New Haven pie, and then tailgate somewhere near the rink after pizza. It's not walking distance.

Please let us know where you will be so we can say a happy hour hello.
