Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Yale Plays better on the road, when an underdog, and in blue jerseys. I think that bodes well for Pittsburgh in two weeks. It would have been easy to cash it in after last week in AC, but this team is mentally and physically tough in addition to being very talented. Looking forward to seeing them on the big stage

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I don't care what the primer says, ecac historically has been overlooked. No more than 2 will get in. If 3 make it, consider it a gift. But won't happen.

Sorry about reviving an ancient post, but how about 3 in the final 6? And 2 in the Frozen Four?

How about the BS that is having Quinnipiac (regular season champ) and Union (tourney champ) in the same region when there are only 3 ECAC teams in the entire tourney.

It that had happened to any other conference there would have been riots....

That's the way the cookie crumbles, homeboy. Without really looking at it (because really, it doesn't matter), it was likely due to the 6 WCHA teams being in the tournament, and the NCAA not wanting 1st round matchups between conference opponents, and also due to wanting to maximize attendance where possible. The latter being the main reason QU (#1 overall) got the 5/12 matchup (BC/Union), instead of what should have been the 8/9 (I believe Miami/Minn St).

Uh.... It happened to Hockey East. UM-Lowell just beat New Hampshire for the Northeast regional title, and BC was their only other team in the tournament. In addition, the only two CCHA teams are both in the same region. So, that is 3 of the 5 conferences, and that is just this year.
i.e., it's pretty common.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I'm probably not supposed to, or shouldn't do this for some odd reason, but since no one really knows who I am :)...way to go Yale. Two more wins would be really nice!

Elsid, like you I'm not sure why, but I say go Yale! Must be something in that St. Albans water...

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Still the 4th best conference  ;)

Yup.

What happened to those WCHA conspiracy theorists? ooooh, I bet the NCAA really kept a WCHA team out of Providence in order to prevent an all-WCHA frozen four!!!!
How about: I DON'T THINK SO!!!

Must fun hockey weekend of my life.
Thank you, Coach Allain and the Yale team.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Did anyone notice that Yale changed the game plan with Malcolm leaving the net to actually clear the rear of the net. He did a great job of it. It really allowed Yale to break out easier this weekend.

Uh.....no it didn't.
New Hampshire didn't win any hardware in Hockey East this year....you need to learn to read a little better as my gripe is that the best ECAC team (and #1 overall team in country) Quinnipiac is in same bracket as the ECAC tourney champ (Union). I have no problem with 2 teams from same conference in a region (especially when 3 or more from that conference in tourney). However to make those two teams the regular season champ and the tourney champ isn't right....

Good observation. I noticed it right away in the Minnesota game and it continued today. I also noticed that Malcolm handled the puck behind the net much better than he had all season.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Another thing that I really did not know, was that the rink in Grand Rapids is the same size as Ingalls but each blue line is actually 3 or 4 feet closer to the red line. This makes each offensive zone larger and the neutral zone smaller. More room to move the puck in the offensive zone, which favors the quicker team.

very interesting....is that NHL standard?

Being tourney champ means nothing in the NCAAs other than the wins it got you to fine tune the seeds. Pairwise is king and you shouldn't be complaining that a #1 and #11 from the same conference were in the same bracket. UML was #3 and UNH #7 and I didn't hear anyone cry about them in the same bracket. Just goes to show people will always find something to complain about...

It likely wouldn't be NHL standard. Since it's where the AHL Griffins play, it could be painted to some experimental dimensions. The AHL is often used as a guinea pig to test out certain rules. Without looking it up, it is POSSIBLE that they implemented new dimensions in an effort to increase scoring. I have no idea if this is the case or not, but it could be.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Hey Yale:
Save some room on that bus to Pittsburgh ... there will be another ECAC team joining you.

Quinn and Union shouldn't have been in the same bracket....pairwise isn't king because if it was the #1 and #5 overall seeds wouldn't have been in same region....selection committee moved union/bc into that region because they wanted bc to be close to home for attendance.

Know what's funny? QU definitely had more fans than BC, and Union didn't have the numbers but won the noise battle even before they took control of the game.

The BC fans were quiet and subdued, and in shockingly small numbers given their proximity to Providence (as well as a sizable local following).

Are you SERIOUS??? Did you really write, "you need to learn to read a little better"? You are a YALE fan and you write semantic nitpicking drivel like that???

Talk to me about the CCHA.
Then grow up.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Since this is a serious thread, I will say congrats to Yale, and good luck in Pittsburgh!! Definitely the best team in Grand Rapids this weekend.
