Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Completely agree that Friday's game is the key one. Union is right on the bubble at 15 in the Pairwise so they need the game even more than we do. While this is not quite an elimination game for both teams as Yale would likely make the NCAAs with a win in the 3rd place game, we don't want to play either a Brown team with nothing to lose and a hot goalie, or a p****d off QPac team looking to knock their hated rival out of the tournament. Yale hasn't lost since Malcolm returned to goal. Their play this past weekend was superb. Hard to imagine that the SLU series was pegged as a toss up by most experts given the way the Bulldogs dominated. Hard to see that level of play declining this weekend.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Ordered my cheap seats for AC through the Yale Box office today. If you order through Yale they will hand out the tickets in the lobby for one hour before the game on Friday. The ticket office also mentioned that if you decide to buy your tix at the Boardwalk Hall Box Office, there are no fees involved. Ticketmaster fees online are near ten bucks a ticket, so buy at the door, it will not even be close to a sellout.

I heard some are staying at the Tropicana? It is a beautiful hotel; hopefully you get a room with a view of the ocean; it's REALLY nice. Just be aware that the Wi-fi in the rooms is NOT free (at least the last time I stayed there, which was 2008). You may be able to pick up free Wi-fi in the Hooters, though, should you have a need to use the computer. I seem to remember the drink special coupons were also pretty good. Enjoy your time there. :)

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

While looking at all the crazy pairwise stuff, it seems our chances of a lock for the NCAA Are slightly better if MSU and NoDak win today. Even with the odds being slightly better, we are still able to be bounced, but it is not at all likely.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Correct. Slightly better, but largely irrelevant. We got all we were going to get out of CC by them staying a TUC. at this point, wins increase their chance of being a WCHA autobid, which hurts us. Since we can't possibly flip the NoDak comparison, their winning helps us out very slightly by lowering the chances for everybody else. But, in essence, we're going to be in the same place coming into tomorrow that we are today.

Tomorrow's early game is interesting. If we beat Union, tomorrow, we're in. So assume we lose. Our biggest chances of getting bounced are losing to Union and Brown. Losing to Union and QPac is not nearly as bad. So if all you want to do is get in, root for Brown in the early game. In addition, it preserves the 5 ECAC bid scenario, which would be really cool.

If you're looking for other rooting interests, we hate autobids by teams that wouldn't otherwise qualify. So you want Niagara, Miami, BC and Lowell. You'd want Notre Dame as well, but a fighting Irish win kills the 5 ECAC scenario. But note, if we're going to win two, you want all those going the other way. Now autobids are great.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Yale is down to just 18 individual scenarios where they don't make the tournament if they go 0-1-1 this weekend.

All of them involve tying Brown in the consolation game, Niagara making the AHA final but losing, Union winning the Whitelaw as back-to-back champs, an upset winner in Boston (not BC or UML), CC beating SCSU in the WCHA Championship game, and an upset in the CCHA that does not involve a Michigan-Notre Dame final.

That's 18 possible scenarios out of 8192 (since the two Yale games would be fixed). Of course, if the probabilities are weighted by KRACH, the likelihood of the Elis missing the tournament without going 0-2 goes from absurdly small (0.2197%) to impossibly small (0.0364%), but that's besides the point.

Anyways, RHamilton posted a fun tool to mess around with in the Pairwise thread. Best of luck to Yale!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Burgie, Thanks for that. The pairwise has gotten so convoluted at this point that all Yale has to do is concentrate on winning one game at a time. A two seed would be nice, but a three seems like it might be less travel, do you trade off playing a supposedly lesser opponent for the hassles and distractions of moving a team by plane? Most of the 16 teams left are so good that being in a local region is one of the biggest advantages a school can have. Good luck to all the teams this weekend.

Tonights game should be great. I think Yale comes in with confidence playing best hockey of the year.
These two teams have been very evenly matched this year, and Union certainly has experience.
Tonights game clearly the one we need to have this weekend.
Miller is four assists away from breaking all-time Yale record.

My prediction: Yale wins 3-1 tonight, Miller with 2 assists, and tomorrow he will add 2 more.

So much for that possibility.

Hope we see you guys in an all-Ivy final tomorrow.

8 minutes to go. Will we even score? Our young defense was really victimized tonight by a veteran team that can win in multiple ways. Our transition game was smothered tonight. Without it, we are lost.

could you give an estimate of the size of the crowd....Boxscore reads 0. Just curious.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Not a good night for Yale at all... not only did they get manhandled, but Niagara, St Cloud, and Minnesota all lost, and BC is losing 3-2 headed to the 3rd. A loss tomorrow in the consolation game and they're really going to have to sweat it out.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Sitting in a coffee shop in AC contemplating the carnage of yesterday. Deep breath. Now looking forward. Win or tie... We're in. Lose and it's 50-50, depending almost entirely on Miami and Lowell to come through. There are a few other ways to squeak in, but how about playing good hockey this afternoon?

Lose and I think it's more like 80% chance we are out of NCAAs.
