Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

So today may be TUC day for Yale after all, as RPI snuck back in last night. Looking over the comparisons, nothing much changes, but that's partly because it won't be TUC day with BC because the HTH game isn't counted for TUC purposes. Several things are going on at once which will affect the BC, UNH, Miami and St. Cloud comparisons (St. Cloud is moving up fast). (1) Wins and losses -- obviously. (2) Holy Cross, RPI (bad) and UMass and CC (good) are all right around the TUC bubble and which ones of them end up in will affect Yale's TUC record. It's possible to pick up the comparison with UNH tonight, but it's also possible to lose the one with BC.

And never forget: none of this matters if you don't go out and win.

I still don't understand what the review was for on the 2nd Yale goal. Does anybody know, because the fact that it took so long to review an obvious goal seemed ridiculous.

What happen to Bennett Carroccio?[/QUOTE]

I bumped into Bennett Carroccio on Campus after he finished taking the last of his finals. What a solid smart intelligent gentleman. Said that he tried to take in a game to watch his teammates, but left early as he isnt quite ready for crowd noise. Since he was injured before the start of the season, Im sure that he has another year of eligibility. Let's dedicate the season to Carroccio

He may have another year of eligibility, but Ivy League doesn't usually recognize it. He would have to withdrawal from school to maintain 3 yrs of eligibility or transfer.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

One word for tonights game which I watched on the horrible Colgate feed, FLAT. Colgate did a great job keeping Yale out of the shooting lane. Did not get a good look at the disallowed goal at the end of the second. But Yale seemed deflated by the decision. I am sure the very physical game with Cornell the night before. Still no excuse to lose to a supposedly inferior opponent.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I agree on both the Colgate feed and Yale's performance. Yale had no juice at all in the 3rd period. Hard to say why that was but this was a missed opportunity as the game was clearly winnable entering the 3rd period. The remaining schedule is not in our favor. 3 weekends in a row on the road after the Princeton and QPac games at the Whale next weekend.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I was hoping that Yale would pick up four more league points this weekend. The Bulldogs have almost been nipping at Quinnipiac's heals as of late. I was hoping for a top five matchup next Saturday in New Haven. Well, I guess it was not meant to be. This is clearly QU's year to shine and out perform the Yalies. Go Bobcats!!!

I was there, and coming from, admittedly a Colgate fan, it was a good no-goal call, but it was awful close, and they took a LONG time looking at it after the horn. My guess is that if the on-ice call had been goal, that would have stood. I don't think they saw anything that would make it definitive, and so the on-ice call stands. I was right in the corner behind that net, and what it looked, and sounded like to me was that the puck went in after the horn, but more importantly, they were still whacking at it after the horn. I don't think that the decision deflated them, I think it was more the snap goal that made it 2-1. Yale created chances, and Spencer Finney bailed out Colgate more than once.

It may be QU's best regular season to date, but be careful what you wish for. Actually hard to believe that Q is playing a road game, the scheduling Gods have been very generous to Q this year.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

We're very excited to announce that, starting tomorrow, all home games and select road games of Yale men's hockey will be available over-the-air on WYBC-AM 1340. This exciting partnership with the WSHU Public Radio Group will allow us to reach a much wider audience in New Haven and southern Connecticut, and we couldn't be more excited. There are now three ways to listen to Yale men's hockey on WYBC:

1. A live, direct stream of the broadcast on WYBC.com, available on computers and mobile devices.
2. A stream of WYBC-AM available on the TuneIn smartphone app (Apple, Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry devices) and on TuneIn.com at http://tunein.com/radio/WYBC-1340-s24123/
3. And of course, the over-the-air broadcast on WYBC-AM 1340.

Our pregame coverage of both games this weekend will start at 6:30 pm EST on WYBC.com. AM coverage, including our interview with Yale head coach Keith Allain will begin right at 6:49 PM and will be identical to the broadcast on WYBC.com.

We hope you'll tune in, and thank you for your support of WYBC over the years. We're excited to bring you these new listening options.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Just returned from the game and it was a costly one. Yale starting netminder Jeff Malcolm was charged on a rush to his net ( by what I thought was an out of control Princeton player rather than intentional) in the first period. Malcolm spent a few minutes on the ice and had to be assisted to the locker room with what looked like a serious leg injury. A source of mine mentioned that Jeff was hospitalized, hopefully just as a precaution. That said, I would not anticipate him in net vs. QU. Very chippy game with Andrew Miller taking a vicious hit which I am surprised he got up from. sloppy play from both teams most of the evening with Yale cleaning up the garbage. Agostino had a fine game and seems to be free of whatever was slowing him down the past couple of weeks. Maricic played well in replacing Malcolm although both goalies let in the first shots they saw. After he settled down he did well. He is much more active around the net and with the puck and his teammates will have to adjust accordingly. Hopefully QU is more worn out than Yale after their OT in Providence.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

The Boys in Blue need to show up big tonight. I thought we got a little distracted as the game wore on last night -- going from 21 shots in 1st Period to 7 shots in 3rd. Dominated stretches of the game but let Princeton get under our skin. If we don't stay disciplined it will be PK all night long. Any status on Jeff Malcomb? I believe he was getting film done on his knee which does not sound good. Need him for stretch run!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Obviously the biggest game of the year so far. As far as PWR goes, some real moves are possible. Yale stands 5th in RPI and 6th in the pairwise. A win tonight could move them as high as 3rd in RPI. This is great for the future, but significant pairwise changes will require some changes in TUC, where Yale currently lags a bit. In particular, though I didn't realize it at the time, Yale's loss to Colgate really cost us in the comparison with Miami, since we now cannot win ComOpp against them. We're almost done with ComOpp against BC as well -- they have a Beanpot game with Harvard which they'd have to lose to give us a shot. We have enough TUC games left to turn around these comparisons, but it all starts tonight.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

It's a dormant Yale thread today. Is it the hangover effect from Malcolm's injury last night, or the quiet before the storm of tonight's game? Regarding last night, Yale was as dominant as they've been all year for the first 30 minutes or so. The game would have been over if not for Mike Condon, Princeton's goalie, who I recall being consistently good throughout his career. Yale did get a little sloppy and chippy in the 3rd period, but I wouldn't make too much of it. Regarding tonight, Hartzell is obviously outstanding in goal so I wouldn't expect to win by scoring 4 goals. The key will be discipline to stay out of the box and the defense clearing pucks asMaricic tends to leave rebounds. It's hard to say which side needs the game more. Yale needs it to maintain their RPI and because it's in their building, but QU needs it to make a statement as their play of late has been middling. BTW, has anyone heard anything on Malcolm?

Yale looked very very good last night !!

Looking forward to what should be one of the most amped up crowd ever to watch an ECAC hockey game in connecticut. Tickets going for upwards of $125!
Was interesting to hear Allain discuss this weekends games. Treated just like any other weekend series as Allain game-plans the Friday night game and assistants do the Saturday game-plan during the week.
Miller absorbed some bone rattling hits yesterday by a Princeton goon (#24) who also took out Malcolm and served another penalty for a cheap shot. But I suspect with the crowd tonight, adrenaline will mask any bruises either team carries over from last night.
