Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

High praise for the Eli from the opposing coach

"I was impressed with Yale. We knew they would push the pace. They are a terrific team and have a great goaltender," said Denver head coach George Gwozdecky in his post-game interview on ESPN radio. "This game could have been way out of hand without the play of our goalie. They did a great job on the penalty kill. They did all the things you need to go on the road to get a win."

From the DU Captain about how Yale came out.

"I don't think we touched the puck in the first 10 minutes of the game," said Denver captain Paul Phillips during an ESPN radio interview after the second period.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Epic win tonight in Denver. Yale came out firing on all cylinders - the forecheck was very effective in disrupting DU's game. The penalty kill did a great job, capped by Stu Wilson's short-handed goal, and Ags connected when it counted. Malcolm deserves a medal, chocolates, fan mail, you name it. The freshman are looking very promising. For all the DU fans' comments that DU didn't play well, their passing was often phenomenal. This win should make our guys realize that they can play with - and win against - anyone.

DU gave us Yalies nosebleed seats behind the goal, but they provided a surprisingly good vantage point (my Whale seats are one row up from the ice, so I rarely get such a good view of the whole game). I thought Yale kept its cool and executed its game plan with discipline and drive.
On to Colorado Springs for the CC game...GO YALE!!!!!!!!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Denver fans can call it an upset all they want but the Bulldogs carried the pace for most of the game and had to overcome a sub par officiating crew. Call with 1 minute left was a joke.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Great win. Now we just have to avoid what happened the last time, when we beat CC the first night and then took a 3-0 lead on Air Force only to run out of gas (wind?) and give up 4 unanswered 3rd period goals. But if I remember I assume Allain does and has got them ready.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Yale wins 2nd OT game of the weekend vs. CC.
Great wins for the Bulldogs (@Denver and @CC).
Could this be start of something special for these guys?

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

A great end to end game, I think the young kids for Yale are starting to get into "the system". Lags was without a doubt the fastest player on the ice. The high shots on goal and all around team effort on the forecheck and defense have turned this season around. Great weekend!

Some notes from game.

Switched to Maricic late in the 2nd period. Didn't let a puck in. Is the platoon system back? Will he start on Saturday against Brown?

Yale undefeated against ranked opponents this year.

Will surely be ranked in top 20 now.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Great job, Yale taking the headlines from an otherwise solid weekend for UNH out there. Great to see two eastern teams come out of two solid western barns 3-0-1!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Great weekend for the boys out west and at altitude -- hope that this could be the start of something special. I look forward to the team fully settling into the system and showing a little more consistency game-in-game-out. So far, they're 4-0-0 against ranked opponents (including 3-0-0 on the road), but only 1-2-1 against unranked teams. Brown and RPI should give them a chance to really piece things together before Union comes to town. Regardless, great road trip!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

What a great great game tonight - a nailbiter start to finish. Our guys were visibly tired in the first and second but outshot CC by 50% nonetheless. We rallied in the 3rd and Balch's goal was triumphant. Great play by Maricic. The Yale cheering section was tiny tonight but augmented by about 20 members of Red Gendron's extended family, who sat behind us.

CC's 5th goal was a rip off - Malcolm had covered up but the ref never blew the whistle, so CC lifted his glove and shoved the puck in the goal. What's great about this team is that they don't let problems get them down - they just keep working and working.

A great great weekend. What a Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Without a doubt one of the strangest games ever with crazy bounces all night. Did CC forget to freeze the pucks? Hey, we'll take the WCHA sweep! Go Bulldogs!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what our ranking will be in the uscho poll tomorrow?

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Great weekend for Yale and by association the ECAC. Looking forward to the Union Yale matchup next month.
