Yale Bulldogs 2023-24

A matchup of the blue teams is next, Yale at Penn State. Tessa Janecke's 94 shots on goal in 18 games look impressive; she has 1 assist per game, like Hartje. Let's go Bulldogs!

Yale went up 2-0 midway through the 2nd period yet didn't manage to shut the game down. The score line turned around toward the end. Penn State won 3-2. Jordan Ray made some fast plays and had two assists. Penn State also has fast forwards, including Janecke. Yale took too many penalties. The Nittany Lions took only two. Phillips was good in net in her second game, and Goode is back!

A positive result in game two against a strong Penn State team. Yale wins 3-1, including an empty-netter by Ray. Dukaric looked good, making 23 saves on 24 shots, and special teams were improved today. The next game is January 2 6PM vs Northeastern; happy holidays!

Feeling mixed emotions this evening as Yale gives up a lead to Northeastern, going down in overtime (happily both Goode and Stainton are back, Goode scoring) - while Claire Dalton scores Montreal's first franchise goal in the PWHL, assisted by Harvard graduate Jillian Dempsey.

Clarkson 4 - Yale 1... Clarkson scored relatively early in the 1st period. They are fast, and they were pressing Yale by a few minutes into the game. Yale had a strong second period, especially with the goal by Gracie Gilkyson assisted by DiAntonio and Buenzow. Gilkyson's now at forward.

Yale kept its pressure going and had some good looks including a near goal called off. Yale went down 2-1 with about 6 and a half mins left. After that, Clarkson scored an empty-netter with a couple minutes left and 1 more on a transition to finish with 4.

Clarkson looked good on special teams, despite not having any power-play goals.

Pia Dukaric has set the Yale career shutouts record - awesome.

Two big games are this weekend, vs Colgate today and vs Cornell, with the Ivy season title in play, tomorrow. Go Bulldogs!

That was a really nice win at home against an impressive Colgate team. Ray has had great moves on the rush, and Dukaric is playing well.

Despite the narrow loss to Cornell, the Bulldogs have momentum going into the postseason, with 4 wins before that. In the ECAC Tournament, Yale hosts Union Sat Feb 24 at 3PM; the game is Pride Day.

Elle Hartje tied the program points record of Maria Dennis '88 with a beautiful goal on a rebound on Saturday vs Cornell.

I'm excited for Hartje breaking the program career scoring record with 2 points today - as well as for Claire Dalton, who had a hat trick for PWHL Montreal this afternoon.

Yale's play today was mostly good though with some sloppy parts as Union surged. Yale will need to carry forward the goal-scoring they found today!

Yale ends the season 16-15-1, including 12-9-1 in ECAC regular-season play, losing to St. Lawrence in the quarterfinals. They played solidly in the playoffs, and they outshot St. Lawrence twice - but lost 4-1 and 3-1. Anna Phillips got in net for a bit over half of the 3rd period, facing her first playoff shots at the beginning of an SLU power play. With a Pairwise ranking of about 14, Yale doesn't make the NCAA tournament.

It was a pretty good season with some stumbles. It was the 5th season in Yale's history in which they've had 16 or more wins. The graduating players are currently the class with the best winning percentage in school history, as the announcer said on Senior Day, and they were coached by Bolding throughout their time at Yale. They narrowly lost out on the Ivy title to Cornell and were increasingly sticking in games, even when trailing, in the second half of the season. Some landmarks of the season included Dukaric breaking the career shutouts record, now at 19 through her 3 years, and Hartje breaking the career points record, with 167 career points.
