Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

That's interesting. Link? It definitely looked like a penalty to me, although I was only watching the video feed from home. Mark Rycroft, the analyst on the DU radio/webcast stream was surprised that it was called a major. At first, he thought they were calling a double-minor, and seemed a bit surprised by that, and actually mentioned several times throughout the game that he was surprised that went down as a major. He also mentioned several times in the third period that DU did not seem to be getting calls, possibly because they had already had more calls than Yale, and the refs don't like the penalties to be too far out of balance.

I believe that with checking from behind there is no "double minor".

It is true that a lot of the refs just want to have the penalties either even or as close as possible. It makes them feel like they didn't affect the game either way...

With UNH losing that late big lead, I wonder if the altitude/fatigue played a factor?

The shots in OT seem to say no, but the recap said late turnovers helped both CC 3rd period goals. Wonder if there was fatigue late in the 3rd that caused poor d zone play.

This UNH team has not been sloppy with the puck.

Can someone (Tig or Ron the lone posters from ***** nation?) :-) who was at the toilet give us a recap of CC's come back? Similar to last Friday when they scored some quick ones back to back on DU?
I'm not CCtig or Ron, as requested, but I will give my recap anyway. ;)

CC looked disjointed for the first 30 minutes, while UNH had a lot of jump and was skating circles around them. Josh Thorimbert was pulled in favor of Joe Howe after the 4th goal (right around 10 minutes into the 2nd) and Howe was simply unbelievable. He had a couple nice stops right off the bat that didn't seem so huge at the time due to the score, but obviously in hindsight were huge. I think one of the things that really started to light a fire under CC was one of the UNH players shooting the puck at Howe after a whistle just a few minutes after he replaced Thorimbert (and getting a penalty for it). McDermott for CC took exception and went after the guy a bit, and CC scored on the ensuing 4 on 4. You could gradually feel the momentum shift, but I have to say, none of this happened because UNH quit skating or sat back at all. They kept coming, and if it weren't for the brilliance of Howe, it would have been ugly, and the 4 CC goals would not have mattered. Everytime Howe came up with a big save, the team became more energized. The main thing about this CC team (as DU fans will attest to after last weekend) is that they are never out of a game, and they never quit battling. Last night wasn't the furious explosion like they had against DU last Friday. This was a very gradual, almost methodical, swing in momentum. It took two goals in the final 3:30 to earn the tie, but I think pretty much everyone in the arena could feel it coming. Again, UNH didn't appear to run out of gas, and they didn't sit back. Joe Howe had to stop 27 shots in the 35 minutes he played, many of which were grade A chances, including an OT breakaway and another point blank shot in OT. But man...this CC team has a ton of character, and they don't get rattled easily. I hope they can build on what they did last night, because that is the kind of performance (especially against such a strong opponent) that can turn a whole season for the better.

DU fans, a friend is having trouble getting the video feed to work. She signed up and tried to watch the replay of the yale game. It keeps flickering and then pausing every 10 seconds. Any suggestions? It works fine for me on my laptop and she was able to watch the CC/UNH feed last night alright...

The only thing I can suggest is go all the way out and start from the beginning. I've done that 2 or 3 times when I've lost connection. Right now the audeio is breaking up. Hope the video is a lot better.
Good Luck

#-2 Yale with few minutes left in the first, you were very true about the
CC feed, very scattered.

UNH outscores DU 6-1 in the last two periods ....... sweet.

Great end to end game by CC and Yale, two pretty evenly matched squads. Nice to see Balch get the GWG, he is the hardest worker on the team.

Congratulations to both the UNH and Yale programs on your very productive weekends. I was impressed by both teams play. Amazing that Yale knocked off #2 and then went down the road and took #14 as well.. Tonight's UNH win was a hard fought win after giving up the big lead themselves the night before. Your boys will have fun flights home tomorrow.

I wish you all a good rest of the season.

You guys have been a joy to banter with the last week. Good luck to all teams the rest of the way.

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

Well, at least we had a much better start for DU tonight; but things went downhill from there. All the UNH goals were the result of turnovers. Can't remember the last time an opponent logged 2 hat tricks inside Magness Arena.....can somebody go into the archives and check that? I don't know about you - but I point to the Denver coaching for this weekend. Let's go back to the Gwoz post-game last night, where he said "we saw this coming; we did not have a good week of practice". Hold it right there = aren't YOU, as the coach(es), held accountable for correcting that, at the very moment you see something going awry? What if the DU Coaches all went out to lunch at Shanahan's one day.... and on the way back, getting into the car in the parking lot, you notice a huge puddle of oil under the car. Do you just get in, buckle up and hope you make it? Do you mention it? Do you talk about it? Instead of driving the car back to campus, do you call somebody? Call a repair shop? COME ON! Nobody in their right mind would just hop in and ignore it!

So what you really said on Friday night post game was..... we knew the team didn't care - but neither did we :(

I don't know man ~ at this point, we'll be lucky to be a .500 team by Christmas Eve... Lot to work on here

Sorry, can't buy that argument. Do you honestly believe that the Denver coaching staff didn't see the issues & try to correct them? I'm sure they saw the "oil leak" & tried to fix it before driving off. You can point out all the flaws & problems but it still comes down to the players listening & then executing. We came out flat on Friday night & then went flat in the 2nd period tonight. That wasn't the coaching staff, that was the DU squad not executing.

I think this team has enough pride it what it has accomplished to brush off the funk of these losses & come back with a vengeance. No one expected this team to be 9 - 1 coming into this weekend & I don't think anyone expects us to go undefeated for the rest of the season. Sure we're going to lose games but in the end I think we'll win way more than we lose. The real question is - Did the DU players learn anything from this experience & will they respond to the adversity in a positive way?
