Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

As USCHO pointed out
The goaltenders for both opponents rank in the top three in Division I for save percentage. Casey DeSmith of UNH has a .961 in 12 games and Yale’s Jeff Malcolm has a .949 in six games.

Pios will need to be patient and play within the scheme. If they get frustrated and forget their positional play, they open the door for their opponents.

PIONEERS ALL-TIME VS. YALE
Denver is 6-0-0 overall all-time against the Bulldogs in a series dating to 1951. Both teams last met in the 1996 Denver Cup where the Pioneers took a 3-2 overtime decision.

OUT OF ACTION
Goaltender Adam Murray (injury) and Larkin Jacobson (team suspension) are out of the lineup Friday.

For UNH if altitude is to be a factor it will be during Fridays CC game. They will be fine for the Denver game.

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

George Gwozdecky has a secret weapon; and he has used it for years. But it's really no secret at all. Just watch the benches during the game. You'll see the visitors, standing, behind the boards - very typical behavior in ANY hockey game, no matter where it's played. Then look over at the DU bench. Every single guy is sitting. That's called resting your legs. They coach it, they preach it, and during games, the coaches make a concious effort to ENFORCE it, constantly telling their guys to sit. That little bit of sitting down between shifts - according to Gwoz - makes a difference. They do it every single game. You watch. Even in the final moments, when the game is on the line and emotions are in high gear..... George wants his team sitting..... while the other bench is all standing. It's really amazing to see.

Best of luck to both Yale and UNH, I will be pulling for both teams for sure. Go Blue2 !

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

Sorry GoUNH but I disagree totally....every athlete that doesn't have time to acclimate to the altitude shows it's effect...as I mentioned elsewhere when we skated against the Sun Valley Suns back when, no one from UNH, Harvard or the other Eastern schools represented could go longer then 30 seconds per shift.....personally I'll use these weekend games as a yardstick to see how we might do come April....Go Wildcats!

Here's the welcome the visitors get just before they step on to the ice at Magness.

"Welcome to 5,432.80 feet"

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

No line charts--DU staff still drunk on Turkey. I'm assuming it will be UC tonight and Mr. Saturday vs UNH.

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

I haven't seen either UNH or Yale this year, and I am really looking forward to these games. I, for one, LOVE it when we get a chance to see the eastern teams, even more so now after having lived back east and seeing so many teams play at home there.

DU is playing incredible hockey right now, far better than even the most optimistic DU fans probably expected after all of their losses from last season. I really don't see a weakness in their game at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if DU comes out of the weekend with two wins. That isn't meant in any way to disrespect Yale or UNH, that's just how good I think DU is right now. And anyone who knows the CC/DU rivalry knows that a CC fan wouldn't just say something like that! ;)

As for CC, I think there are some good things in the works for his team this season, but they aren't quite there yet. The defensive corps is very good, 1-6. D-man Eammon McDermott is about as good an outlet passer as you'll see, and he helps CC push the tempo. The goaltending is generally solid, albeit a bit inconsistent. The Tigers are fantastic 5 on 5. They have two huge weaknesses so far this season: The first period has been god awful, and the penalty killing has been brutal so far. Just an example of the PK: All 5 goals CC gave up in the Cornell series were on Cornell's PP. So, as much as it is a key to every hockey game ever played, for CC it is even more of a key to stay out of the box.

For those who don't know, CC plays on the Olympic ice. Obviously this won't cause a problem for UNH, since they do as well. Two years ago, Yale had no problem adjusting to it due to the fact that they were (and I assume still are) a very fast team. I always look forward to fast opponents on the big ice, because CC loves an up-tempo game. So there should be great action both nights.

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

Very excited for tonight's game, as well as tomorrow night against UNH. On this occasion, I find myself hoping not only for a win, but for a CC win as well. I think it would do a world of good for the pairwise come the end of the season, if DU and CC each take two games this weekend. (Mind you, I'm not predicting that, just saying I would love it.)

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

If any Yale fans are considering purchasing the video feed for tomorrow's game at CC I would highly advise against it. Not worth your $7, truly terrible feed.

No apology necessary, you have more experience at that level than I do and your opinion is one that I respect.

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

Pretty entertaining hockey tonight in Colorado. I certainly wish the outcome in Denver had been different. Right now, I believe the game in the Springs is still in OT, but watching a team come back from 4-0 is pretty crazy.

Edit: I lied. The game in C-Springs had ended. Not a good night for the WCHA.

I second that advice .....

Re: Yale and New Hampshire at Denver and CC 11/23 & 11/24

Is this the Denver feed you're talking about or the CC? My comments were just about CC's feed, the camera angle changes every 3 seconds and the play is borderline impossible to follow, and that's only the start of the issues.
