Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Charges have been brought against six people in Hillsborough Disaster

The full list of individuals and charges are:
Mr Duckenfield, 72, faces manslaughter by gross negligence of 95 men, women and children
Sir Norman, 61, faces four charges of misconduct in a public office relating to alleged lies he told in the aftermath about the culpability of fans
Graham Mackrell, former Sheffield Wednesday club secretary, will be accused of breaching Health and Safety and Safety at Sports Ground legislation
Peter Metcalf, who was a solicitor acting for SYP, is charged with perverting the course of Justice, relating to changes to witness statements
Former Ch Supt Donald Denton and former Det Ch Insp Alan Foster are accused of perverting the course of justice
So it seems two for the disaster itself, Duckenfield and Mackrell, and four for the "alleged coverup".

People are being told not to comment on the case on social media due to "Do NOT comment anywhere publicly (including on Reddit) whether you think any of the defendants is guilty/innocent. Your comments could be used as evidence by the defence of perversion as justice (ie claiming they cannot have a fair trail, as people already believe them to be guilty/innocent. If this happens, the court case could be thrown out." r/soccer has been pretty vigilant on this, it's crazy.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Unless I'm mistaken, we will have an non-MLS team in the US Open Cup Semifinals. Congrats to Miami and FC Cincinnati.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

It certainly would have been cooler to have Christos FC, but I like the idea of someone outside MLS making it this far...

We need to bring back the ethnic teams: New York Hakoah, Brooklyn Hispano, and the immortal Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals.

Actually the two most successful are Bethlehem Steel and Maccabi Los Angeles with 5 each. I'm pretty sure Maccabi Los Angeles still exists and Bethlehem Steel is used now for Philly's USL team.

For MLS, Chicago and some other MLS team have 4.

i really don't get that whole situation...
From the article:
FIFA theoretically would’ve been O.K. with Malouda playing this month. The Gold Cup isn't their tournament. But CONCACAF isn’t O.K. with it, and the key can be found in section XV. a. of the Gold Cup regulations. It reads:

Each participating Member Association shall select its national representative team from the best players who are nationals of its country and under its jurisdiction, and are eligible for selection in accordance with the provisions of the applicable FIFA Regulations.

That last clause is the issue. Although Malouda can appear for French Guiana because it isn’t in FIFA, CONCACAF chooses to conduct its biennial championship according to FIFA's eligibility guidelines. Malouda is cap-tied to France in FIFA competition and since the Gold Cup is contested under the same rules, he's unable to play for anyone but Les Bleus in either. CONCACAF doesn’t consider a player’s eligibility until game day. Nothing stopped French Guiana from adding Malouda to its roster or bringing him to the USA. But if he steps onto the Red Bull Arena pitch in uniform, Les Yana Dòkòs will forfeit.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

To be fair there aren't many other examples outside concacaf where a team can play in a confederations title tournament but not the World Cup....

They played him last night against Honduras and tied. CONCACAF is reviewing the matter so it will probably end up 3-0 Honduras.

USA - Martinique is a comedy of errors.

Well, at least we got the W. First place through two games with last place Nicaragua up next.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

First place through two games with last place Nicaragua up next.

...except that US and Panama are tied on goal differential, the first tie-breaker; US only in first by scoring more goals overall (2nd tie-breaker). That means that first place in the group will be determined by who can outscore the opponent by more goals, Panama over Martinique or US over Nicaragua. Conceding two goals last night could easily cost us first place.
