Happy to see Minnesota win.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

I still cannot believe they are really going to do the 48 team world cup with 16 groups of 3. Just plain stupid. Creating all that inequality in the first round groups just doesn't seem like they've really thought through the groups...unless they just don't care because they don't expect the third team in a group to be good enough, but seeding isn't historically how they've decided groups to realistically Brazil, USA and Sweden could end up in one group...

Is it final? It's so dumb it can only be because of $$$ but I can't see how FIFA makes any more bribes off this format than any other.

If they must go to 48, what was wrong with the world top 16 getting a bye* and the other 32 playing an extra group round of 8x4? I think the old format was perfect, but I understand the desire to invite more countries and give the big $$$ / crap teams (e.g., China, heck maybe England ;) ) an even easier road to qualify.

* Or maybe give the bye to the prior Cup's 16? That would make those marginal matches that much more interesting, and really reward a feel good dark horse.

Bc the club teams of the world don't want the tournament to take any longer than it has to, despite growing the tournament, this way it still the same window adds teams but doesn't add games to any one team. The problem I see is the unfairness of:
Day 1 - A vs B
Day 4 - B vs C
Day 7 - A vs C

On day 4 C is cold while B is on only 2 days rest, while on day 7, A has double the rest of C plus A/C know exactly which result will put them or both of them through to the next round. If they seeded the whole tournament, I might be ok with this because the worst team in each group should be pretty obvious, but if they keep with the intercontinental stuff it will be terribly unfair having one group with Italy, USA, Colombia and another with Panama, Iraq, Egypt.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Sigh. what a mess.

I watched the Dortmund BM game the other night. Boy BM has some great players. Robben might be old but he can sure play.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

BM got a bit screwed yesterday against RM.
Yes they did and they played better overall. However I question if they would have gone thru even with a fair treatment. Though it's kind of like playing the yankees in Yankee stadium, RM are going to get the calls. or like playing BU at Aggannis.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

MLS player salaries have been released. Minnesota United is paying Vadim Demidov $550k to give up 16 goals in 3 games and then ride the pine the rest of the season. What a *ing waste. Meanwhile Chad Marshall and Roman Torres from Seattle make $350k and $430k respectively. Heck Stefan Frei and Jordan Morris make less combined!

oh no, they screwed up and he likely won't be on the team much longer...at least they realized their mistake and aren't making a bad situation worse by trying to see if he can improve enough...

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Yeah I'll give them credit for realizing it but yeesh that's a cap sting.

Here's the link (PDF) BTW.

Interestingly, Seattle is paying less out in salary than Portland.

I'm honestly not sure how much of that is counting against the cap, it was definitely a waste of GAM/TAM (i don't know what they used) but he is not considered a DP even though his salary is well above the threshold.
