Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Ireland vs France could be very interesting.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

At this point I think Aron Johannsson might be Icelandic Giuseppe Rossi. Probably should have picked his home country for a number of reasons.

Looking at Iceland's performance in qualifying and the group stage, it's hard to disagree.

Although that bubble might pop pretty quickly, as that last goal changed their opponent from Croatia in the "newbie" bracket to England in the bracket of death.

Ireland vs France could be very interesting.

The only thing missing is the match taking place in Stade de France.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

I think Croatia has been better than England thus far so maybe Iceland is ok with that--the round of 16 at least. Maybe not that side of the bracket overall.

Karma that the Irish fans are staying in Euro 2016 and the goons from Russia are heading home. A few examples of how awesome the Irish fans have been:

Lifting a Hungarian reporter onto their shoulders and singing.

Serenading a girl before their match with Belgium

Singing a lullaby to a baby aboard a train in Bordeaux

Today, the Irish fans sang along with the Italian national anthem before the match.

Yeah, that's all pretty awesome.

No matter what talent you bring in, you have to get experience against the best out there if you want to compete. I think the issue was that we held the ball for so long that it allowed the press to operate. And I fault the mid field for not moving the ball quick enough or with enough authority. I would like to see us bring in a lot of young midfielders and get them developed.
On the Messi free kick goal, the argentine players did move the point of the kick up 5 yards, which mattered. those little things add up.

I hope we can come back against Colombia and play better. I disagree that Klinsmann had no clue, but whatever plan we had went out the window in the 4th minute. The score doesn't reflect it, but I thought we played better as we got more used to the style of game.
BTW, Higuain scored 36 goals in the Italian league. 36. The top scorer in the EPL had 25 and I bet no one in MLS had more than 25 as well.
I don't know what game you watched but it wasn't USA-Argentina. The US looked lost from the kickoff. Bradley got the kickoff and immediately booted it up field to nobody, the midfield basically watched Argentina pass it around, and Guzan looked totally unsure of anything.

Look, as talented as Argentina is, a better organized US team, at home, would've at least made a serious game of it and had fighting chance. To come out and play like that, no matter the opposition, in a semifinal is unacceptable.

OK so I guess you mean that Bradley isn't a midfielder, because I thought I specifically called out the mid field. Totally agree about Guzan though.

I don't really see how they can continue this game tonight. Torrential downpour with standing water forming on the field.

Edit: The grounds crew is out, so I guess they're going to try.

God these commentators are some of the worst I've ever had to listen too.

Re: World Soccer XXVII: The REAL Football

Rumors floating around from England of Klinsmann going to Southampton...
