World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

It's on HBO. If it gets posted on YouTube I'll link it. I didn't know FIFA had spent $28million on a movie about FIFA starring Tim Roth as Sepp Blatter. It would have been perfect if he had spliced it with "The Godfather".

So knowing how crabby FIFA is, England won't be getting a World Cup for 40 years.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

ESPN is also doing a pick 'em of every game in the World Cup. If you're interested in doing this in addition to the bracket I made a group.

You'll have to keep checking in on it after reach round to pick the next slate of games.

Name: USCHO
pass: hockey

EDIT: This is not the bracket group that was previously posted. This is a new group and game. Unlike the other, which is a bracket predictor, this group is a game-by-game pick 'em of all 64 games.

I wanna see FIFA sponsored by cocaine and chainsaws :p

Just watched it myself. Pretty much everything we already knew though.

The new laws, the criminal court FIFA set up in South Africa, the board room modeled after the War Room in Dr. Strangelove...that was new to me.

We already did this! :p

They are two different things. The first group is a bracket predictor. Mine is a game-by-game pick 'em. Pick all the group stage games, then wait for the round of 16, pick those games, quarters, etc...

The Dr. Strangelove board room was new but I knew about the others. Bill Archer on Bigsoccer has a tons of posts on this subject.

We should get the first referee assignment tomorrow. Supposedly since they're following UEFA's 48-hour rule.

Mark Geiger of the US is one of the potentials for the opening match.

Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

I'm happy to see their streak of failure continue...especially if its at the hands of the ticos

Understood. I've mostly Scottish blood in me, but they won't be making the Cup anytime soon. I do have English, German and French blood in me too. However, I like rooting for England because they seem to be FIFA's target. They'll give World Cups to a land-grabbing, KGB-trained dictator that channels his inner-Joe Stalin and the oil-rich Qataris that will use their stadiums as a giant grave for foreign workers. However, they complain when a couple of Brits have a couple of pints and like to fight. Way to prioritize there, Sepp.

So I'll gladly cheer for the Three Lions just as big middle finger to that backwards and corrupt bunch of strongmen.

Something I came across today while reading Deadspin's nation-by-nation World Cup preview (which are worth a read): John Obi Mikel is only 27. I could swear he's been playing for Chelsea for at least 30 years.
