Re: World Soccer XXV - the run up to the World Cup

Men With Blazers keep repeating this "dream" one of them has had of the US winning the World Cup...its a funny story to dream about.

It's not so outlandish....for the 2030 World Cup. Or perhaps even the 2026 World Cup if we ever get to host again!

Ariaga II has been noticeably absent for Portugal thus far against the Mexicans.

I'd be happy if this goes 0-0. Mexico and Portugal both having a lack confidence would be good.

Although Mexico could start paying us back by blasting Portugal here.

I like the idea of a struggling Portugal. I'm fine if Germany has the group wrapped up and little to play for in that third game when we meet them.

That's gonna be the key to the US advancing... Yea, we need to take care of business against Ghana (W) and Portugal (Draw), but the biggest challenge the US will face is a game against Germany with both teams needed a win to advance...

oh totally. But Portugal was trying out some new guys and some non standard stuff and most importantly weren't really trying all that hard. they will be a lot better than that against the US.

I'm writing off the Portugal game as a loss. Hopefully the US can win the first game 2-0, only lose by 1 to Portugal and Germany will already be through so the US can draw the Germans and advance on GD. If the US draws with Portugal, even better.

I don't see them getting through without a result against Portugal. I think they have the advantage with the match in the Amazon.

Quick NASL note - Minnesota United wins the spring championship and secures a playoff spot.

Quick note on those in the ESPN pool: They use their own rankings system. Most are right or similar but some are pretty far off.

Haven't seen it yet, but the twitters are alive saying John Oliver took down FIFA pretty well tonight on his HBO show.

ETA: Just saw it. He eviscerates FIFA.
