World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

WNY Flash opened up their season on the road last night. Abby Wambach JUST missed a great opportunity in stoppage time to tie it up, and Sky Blue ended up winning 1-0. :( I believe opening day is in a couple weeks in Rochester.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Cardiff will join Swansea in the Premier League next year. How about that?

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

WNY Flash finish with a 1-1 tie. Kerr from Wambach, and Matheson with a PK after a phantom push-off where the player wasn't even touched and just dove. Homer ref also missed a blatant handball. Not quite to the level of the Aussie ref from 2011, but a point's a point, and I'll take it.

Luis Suarez up to his old tricks again. For those of you that didn't see it, he bit Ivanovic of Chelsea during the match today. This guy needs to be done in the BPL.

He has Vince McMahon on line 1.

His quote after the match was that it made him "sad". Maybe Ivanovic didn't taste good?

Can he skate? He has a future in Vancouver if the soccer thing washes out.

Caught the highlights on Sportscenter this morning - well that volleyed goal by van Persie is just fantastic.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Is the English title race more or less exciting than the Spanish one? I used to think "more... much more", but this year sure wasn't the case.

It isn't usually. Sure, there are sometimes three teams competing instead of two, but still.

Of course, this year neither is interesting; the only reason the English race is over and the Spanish one isn't yet is because they're only 32 games into the season in Spain. The best league where there's an interesting race this year is probably Holland.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

God I hope Villa doesn't get sent down :(

Looking through the matchups I think they "should" stay up; I've been monitoring the matchups for several weeks and it seems to be going as expected....last game of year is with Wigan...that could be a life/death match. Few games back they gave up late goal to end up with draw...that is going to be what I point at if they get sent down. They have given up more boneheaded goals than anyone would think possible. Certainly differential won't help them at all.

Think where they'd be if they hadn't gotten Benteke. They'd already be packing.

I think so too. They are 3 points above the next lowest team.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Lovely pick by Muller on the unsuspecting Barca defender on Bayern's 3rd goal (Robben)

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Not only did Bayern win by 4 goals but Barcelona had 0 away goals too.

One doesn't want to seem overconfident but that is a realy steep hole to dig out of for Barca.

Never underestimate what can happen at Camp Nou. I'm not going to go so far as to say that it's UEFA's version of Azteca (insofar as Barca getting insane calls), but magical stuff happens there that keeps the home side in business.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Side note: Bayern is set to sign Mario Gotze from Borussia, thereby making it insanely hard for me to like them, despite all my best efforts.

At least they don't fix matches like the cheating scum in Italy.
