World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

That's silly. If Robbie Fowler can personally clear a large pile of snow off of the goal line with his nose, these guys can play a game with a little bit of the white stuff.

Saw a story in Sports Illustrated which stated that one of the conditions for a successful protest is that the captain of the team making the protest had to make a formal protest to the referee during the game in the presence of the other team's captain. You'd think Clint Dempsey would be able to testify one way or the other on this requirement and that would end the controversy one way or another.

For the protest to have a chance of succeeding, it must meet specific requirements stated in the 2014 World Cup Regulations.

One clause says that when a field becomes unplayable, the protesting team's captain "shall immediately lodge a protest with the referee in the presence of the captain of the opposing team.''

Costa Rica also had to file written protests with the match coordinator within two hours of the final whistle, and to FIFA's administration by registered letter within 24 hours, "otherwise they shall be disregarded,'' the regulations state. FIFA had yet to determine whether Costa Rica had followed those procedures.

I think it is safe to say that Beasley is not a very good left back... just getting carved up. ..

It's certainly not his best pos but I think it's more because he is pressing inside to help with others . Tough spot for Beasley.

Great result. You'd love to have more than four points at this stage, sure, but we've got two of the toughest games in our rear view mirrors. The three games in June will be a big opportunity.

I'll take that single point especially after all the chances El Tri had.

Thank goodness Chacharito only scores for Man United. :D

A point at the Azteca, the 8,000 feet above sea level hellhole that Mexico defends better than their own border. I'll take it.

Considering that is a game that most of us pencil in a 0, 1 point is darn good.

Echoing everyone else, awesome game for US, especially in the context of the controversy over Klinsman's choices and tactics. When you look at the injuries and missing players, and the inexperience of the back line in particular, this was a huge result.

The "rule" of qualifying is win at home and tie on the road, and using that mantra, the US is only 1 point off a "perfect" score so far, ahead of most of the rest of the group. Gonzalez is a great find, nice to have him on our side!
