What was worse that miss or Rooney's miss?

That miss. He could have just walked it into the net.

PK's have been missed before, and on a much grander stage. Torres' miss is inexplicable.

Blackburn didn't look that good, but I will take a first win of the season, especially at the expense of one of the big 4.

Anyone else think Carlos Tevez looks like a completely different person with that weird-*** beard he's got now?

Edit to add other random thoughts:

Wow, even Joey Barton thinks Karl Henry is a thug. That speaks volumes!

How did I miss the news that Bobby Rhine died? Tragic. :(

Tevez also appears to have added a solid 15 pounds as well. For Manchester only having two decent restaurants, he sure must be patronizing them a good bit.

How long until Roberto Soldado gets linked with a move to al-Citeh or Chelski or back to Madrid? 20 goals for Getafe two years ago, 25 for Valencia last year, and already 5 in his first 4 appearances this year must be catching some eyes.

15 pounds and a weird-*** beard. Nice! I always figured at some point slack off a bit.

Someone needs to teach Messi to dive. He was just grabbed by a defender (would have been a yellow) but didn't go down. He kept dribbling the ball and led FCB on a break.

Or maybe other players could grow a pair and not go down like they've been shot if an opponent so much as breathes on them. Nah.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Is Stoke a legitimate contender for a Champions League spot?

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Pompey scored in the 94th minute today to steal a 1-0 victory over Blackpool. Still, only 9 points from 8 games is pretty poor. But hey...middle of the table.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Red Bulls finally win, aided by a questionable (at best) handball call in the second half. Although there was actually a handball about 3 seconds earlier that wasn't called, so I'm sure Timbers fans will forget that one. Defense looked much stronger without Rafa, I think most likely that he's going to be riding the pine for the time being. When paired next to Ream, Keel looks very good. He doesn't have to handle the ball out of the back all that much and he marks defenders well. The crap I gave him during the Gold Cup absentee games was a little harsh. Mendes and he aren't a good centerback pairing but they play better with Ream around.

Stoke is going to be a very difficult team to beat, especially at home, but no I don't think they can manage to get a Champions League spot. They don't have the squad depth to play European games and still stay up that high in the standings. Playing games in Europe and the league takes huge depth, being able to rotate the squad. Liverpool is the only team not playing in Europe that could break into the top four, but honestly I don't think they are good enough.
