Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness
I fully believe that England was outplayed by Germany, but here are some of my gripes.
In the 10th or 11th Rooney was in on goal, all alone, but the linesman blew it for offside, completely wrong because Philip Lahm played the ball back!!!
Might have been a goal, might not have been.
Besides the ref completely bungling the no goal, he also bungled the goal that made the score 3-1. Lampard lined up for the FK. Germany lines up 8 yards away. Ref makes them move back. As Lampard is striding up, the men are maybe 6 yards away, they block the FK, go on the break and score. The ref should have blown for the kick to be retaken. He knew everyone for England was forward meaning he was gifting Germany a break.
And even though England wasn't going to come back, Larrionda then decided for two added minutes...with two goals and several substitutions. That's a curious one that didn't have anything to do with the final score.
Don't get me wrong, Germany outplayed England. No one for England played well. Germany would have likely have won on penalties, worst case.
But there were a lot of bad decisions that went against England, the type that don't really make sense to me.
Oh well, England always goes down with either a ref's decision radically changing the landscape of the match, or on penalties, or on crosses that float into a net while a stricken keeper watches.
I'd like to change it up, how about in two years England just wins it all, thanks.
