Well, the story in Group C is terrible goaltending, and has led to a very interesting table after the first round of the round robin.

Ghana is playing Serbia currently in the first round for Group D, with Germany and Australia meeting up later today.

On the topic of cards, one of my least favorite things about the game is the unnecessary yellows and straight reds. I'll always prefer a ref who isn't card crazy while still being able to control the game.

US: sucked that the Algeria keeper let that in, but we got our luck yesterday. Most would expect England to beat Algeria. That would truly make it a three horse race for two spots. Bottom line, can't afford to lose to Slovenia--and I don't think we will.

Draw Slovenia: Have to beat Algeria and have England beat Slovenia. That seems realistic, but with England and Slovenia entering their meeting with four points each...if they were to somehow tie, break out the tiebreakers.

Bottom line: just can't lose to Slovenia.

If we draw Slovenia, then we'll have to mercilessly crush Algeria (well, at least win by 2) and we should be okay. I still think we manage to pick up victories in both games. I was left very unimpressed with Slovenia and Algeria today, but perhaps they weren't playing their best games either.

I like this Ghana team, they know what they want to do, and they do it. They will convert one of these crosses.

I was a little worried that Essien was going to be a loss that they wouldn't be able to cope with, but the first half they played well, and could easily have a lead. It gives me a little more hope that Ghana can advance out of this group.

Nikola Zigic reminds me of Zat Knight, so tall and yet gets beaten in the air a lot because his timing and jumping are poor.

I can't be too upset over him... then again, I don't know a lot about his case... I'd be more apt to consider him a refugee.

I have no arguments about Rossi- the kid never played ODP or anything, and he essentially made up his mind at age 12.

Subotic played in the Olympic Development Program, which means that USA Soccer was footing the bill for some of his development.

Both my wife and I have spent a decent amount of time in West Africa (her more than myself). While most of my time was spent in Burkina Faso, we have managed to make it to both Ghana and the Ivory Coast.

And that is the game!!

Ghana wins 1-0.

David Stern loves to say that the NBA has the best officiating in the world, but so far, I think the World Cup can easily make that claim (and unlike the NBA, they can do it with a straight face!)

I know, I know....it's early in the tourney, and someone will come along and screw up the run of good officiating (maybe even as soon as 2:30 EST!). But so far so good for the officials.

"There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch!"

(Not really, the Dutch are cool except the ones who play for Real Madrid.)

I don't like Mexico (from a soccer standpoint) but I don't think that's random either.
