World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Who the hell are you? :D

A United fan since 91 when they played Crystal Palace so I'm not one of those fly by night bandwagoners. I've seen a couple EPIC FAILS from the Red Devils this year, but Liverpool has really underachieved this year. Someone needs to clone Bill Shankly because this is ridiculous. The red half of Merseyside really loves their football to paraphrase the aforementioned Shanks...

"Some say that football is a matter of life and death... I assure you it's much more important than that."

Really underachieved because they've been cursed by injuries and Rick Parry for close to a decade. Now cursed with two stupid owners who hate each other.

It's not like there's any reason for their underachieving. It's just that they've played badly right?

Now why would you go into business with someone you hate? It's like a Sox and Yankee alliance. It doesn't make sense. Can't they bring back the 70s team of Daglish, Keegan, Toshack and Hughes? :D

Who knows what Gillette was thinking. Of course, what were the previous owners thinking when they kept that moron Parry around for almost two decades.

Everything is cyclical. What I do know is Liverpool is a club I'll always support and follow. I find of all the teams in the Premiership they have the most loyal fans with the best attitude. They're not really a bandwagoning team because of a lack of recent success and the majority of their fanbase is centered around the Merseyside while teams like Manchester United are similar to the New York Yankees with fans all over the country. Though the Yankees can claim their city while ManU can't.

Oh remember when I was making fun of ManU for not winning even with ManU time and Ferguson for complaining?

Villa with a 1-0 win @Blackburn in the first leg of their cup semi.

On the upside Blackburn needs just 2 goals at Villa to have a chance to advance.

Terrier, I think chairman are too quick to pull the trigger on people. If the chairman that run things now were in charge back then, Fergie would have been out of a job and United would not have the success that it has enjoyed. I think Sir Alex should be allowed to finish his term and not get the Bobby Bowden treatment.

With that being said, I do think Rafa needs to be let go. I think he's lost the team, but I would wait until Torres, Yosi and Gerrard come back. It would be unfair to sack him until they all come back and he gets some time. I say wait until the end of the season to do it. But if you do sack him, who gets the job?

By the way, United has that city. The Citizens are like the Mets and that they throw their money around, but end up blowing it like they always do. They had chances to win the old Division One in the 70s, but would end up screwing the pooch. Manchester is a United town.

I don't believe so. When I've been in England, visiting my brother when he lived there, we hung out with a good number of his English friends who followed a wide variety of teams. They all said regarding Manchester that City are followed more by the residents of Manchester, while United have lesser local support, but draw a lot of support from places other than Manchester. I'm sure there are some locals that do support United, but I've always heard that the average local is more likely to be a City follower.

Sorry buddy, but Manchester belongs to City.

Blockski,

Thanks for the DC post/ideas.

It's nice to see a fellow MLS fan in here. I'm a Rev fan who sees their RFK game every season. Any thoughts on yesterday's SuperDraft, trading away Fred, etc.?

That comes from having fun in the warm California sun.

Or being 100% Indian.*

*The real Indian, not those Native Americans who think because some idiot from Genoa realizes he would be hung if he came back to Spain without actually finding India and called their ancestors Indians it actually made them Indians.

I like the trade. DCU had no choice but to protect Fred in the expansion draft (due to rules about foreign/domestic slots, etc) and it was clear that the organization wanted to go in a different direction. We also needed a keeper, as Josh Wicks has lots of potential, but he'll still be out for several months recovering from surgery. Given the relative lack of talent in this year's draft (as opposed to last year) and the general crapshoot that drafting is in soccer, I like the move. I like it for both teams, too - Philly gets a lot of picks and can build a team around them, while DCU needed a keeper upgrade and also clears out a lot of salary cap space.
