World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Ran through the World Cup this morning just trying to score individual games and not look at how those results would effect advancement. came up with some interesting results.

Group Stage:
Portugal advanced over Ivory coast on goal differential (1 g). Cameroon advanced over Denmark by the same difference. Chile beat out Honduras 4 pts to 3 for the last spot in their group.

Elimination round had some good early matcups. Spain/Portugal, England/Ghana, Germany/USA, Mexico/Argentina.

I ended up with Brazil/Spain in the final.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Finally, some positive news on the USMNT injury front - Jay DeMerit is back.

Somebody get that man laser eye surgery. Or maybe a pair of Horace Grant rec specs.

Not sure that works too well with headers, though.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

I think this is typical English tabloid fear mongering. Keeper is the one position on the field where our starter and backup are better than what they'll trot out. We're weaker at every position in the rest of the field. Still hoping Howard can stand on his head and get us a result:D

Hooray for our kids growing up playing football, basketball, baseball, and Nintendo!

Time for the USSF to pay the bills:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2009/12/johnson_out_usa-mexico.html

Soccer America reports that the USSF is aiming to arrange a USA-Mexico friendly in February, joining a proposed match against Honduras in January and a soon-to-be-finalized friendly at the Netherlands in March. USA-Mexico = $$$.

According to a source, several cities -- at least one of which has hosted a USA-Mexico friendly in the past -- are in the running to stage the game. It would be the second game on the national team's calendar this year, following a Jan. 24 game against Honduras at Home Depot Center that has been reported in the Honduran press but not confirmed by U.S. Soccer.

Jerry Jones, paging Jerry Jones - white courtesy phone.

I have a dream that one day we won't have to rely on "Mexican" fans to fill the coffers reliably.

Until that glorious moment, yeah I hope Jerry World packs em in. Play the Honduras game in Chicago or DC and you should see a similar effect.

Agreed.

However, I doubt you're going to see friendlies against anyone in either Chicago or DC in January.

The Netherlands in March is far more interesting, as is potential friendlies as we creep into the summer and closer to the World Cup.

I assume the Netherlands match is being played in Europe? I can't remember the last time a big name UEFA squad played over here on an actual FIFA matchday.

Yeah I didn't think about Chicago, but I think you could take a risk on DC in January. It might be a decent simulation for some of those high altitude June games in South Africa.

What the heck is going on at Anfield?
:(

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Can't believe martin atkinson is officiating another united game so soon after what happened at the bridge, complete joke.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Downing clears a goal off the line and is then replaced by Nigel Reo-Coker. 10 minutes or so plus ManU added time.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Missed that free kick worthy challenge because they were busy showing Fergie throwing a nutty.

My god, they just showed the replay and Wes Brown destroyed Luke Young. Atkinson is a joke.
