Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

European Playoff Draws have been announced:

France-Ireland
Russia-Slovenia
Greece-Ukraine
Portugal-Bosnia

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Portugal vs. Bosnia, you say? I'm shocked!

Anyone want to wager what UEFA/FIFA will come up with if Bosnia actually wins that?

"We had planned from the beginning that one of the four playoffs picked at random will be played on opposite day, in which the losing team actually wins. We randomly draw Portugal-Bosnia!"

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

That wasn't bad. :)

Jozy came off the bench for Hull at Fulham after Hull were already down 2-0, didn't see a whole lot of the ball but bulled through a defender to create a half-chance out of nothing. I don't know that I'd say definitively that he should be starting rather than Vennegoor of Hesselink, since it's not like VoH saw much of the ball either, but it seems like Phil Brown doesn't have anything to lose by changing stuff up at this point.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

And the clubs don't benefit by following FIFA's rules? If not, what's stopping the top clubs from forming their own league outside of FIFA?

Sorry to drag this back up, but FIFA has this whole thing wrapped up pretty tight. Any player that signs with a league or club "outside of FIFA" is banned from international competition. That keeps everyone playing by the FIFA rules, law book and system.

I'm very excited about the Champion's League this week. With this awesome FSC coverage, I've gotten in the habit of putting all the games for the week on DVR and then watching them over the next five or six days. This is so much better than the old ESPN coverage. Inter-Kiev today should be interesting and then tomorrow ManU heads to Moscow, Real hosts AC Milan and Bordeaux-Bayern.

Liverpool could really use a win against Lyon, but the rest of the big four might just play for the tie if things get tight.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Since it's been dug back up, I'd also point out that the clubs do (and should) pay for the insurance since they're the ones with something to lose (aside from the player, of course).

None of this, however, explains why Milan is demanding compensation for Gooch after the fact - did they not have insurance on a guy they knew would be playing big minutes internationally?

They can't be complaining about losing a key member of the team, (the kind of player that insurance can't replace) because they haven't been playing him. Nor can they argue that, since what they're asking for is money - which is exactly what insurance would pay out.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Does anyone else's Liverpool-Lyon feed suck?

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

What the hell? He was onside.

I think the call was the push in the back.

When they cut to the linesman, he was pointing to the left with his flag, which indicates which direction the foul was on. On offsides, he would be holding the flag vertically.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Then that's a really soft foul but I can live with the call because of the advantage gained.

Stevie G is already off after 22 minutes. ManU looks to have sewn up three points.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

It was deserved, but when's the last time a yellow was given for getting kneed in the back of the head?

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Yossi!

1-0.

And how about letting Cris continue to play after that injury and promptly lays down groggy after giving up the goal?

Do the Mets trainers help on the side for Lyon?

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Hey, Yossi, if you scored like two of those for Israel, you'd be in the World Cup.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Half time.

Aurelio's crossing has been impeccable. If not for a world class one handed save by Lyon's keeper on Martin Kelly's cross, he'd have a goal and an assist in 20.

He's like the Israeli Roy Keane? :)

Or the antithesis of Dirk Kuyt. How that guy can score for the Netherlands and then miss sitter after sitter for Liverpool is beyond me.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Was there a reason only one Liverpool defender felt like moving around to defend in the box there?

It all started with Reina being an idiot and punching at it putting himself way out of position.

Maybe it is my bias, but am I the only one who thought Lyon had been dominated to that point? Until the last five minutes. Announcer is acting like Lyon deserved an equalizer.

Meh. I don't think it was completely against the run of play, Liverpool had been controlling, but it wasn't Lyon's first good chance by any means.

That said, Liverpool needs to get their act together in the final third. They've looked awful up front without Torres in these two matches.
