Wow!

Barca 1 - Rubin Kazan 2
Wow. Yeah, that's, um, wow. Glad I didn't DVR that one.

Without having watched the match or listened to any commentary, I blame Rafa Marquez.

Barca was peppering the Kazan goal, must have hit 5 posts.

In MLS news that no one here probably cares about, DC United earned a 1-1 tie at Toluca in the CONCACAF Champions League, which brings MLS's record on Mexican soil to 0-17-2.

As an FYI for a tough road trip - Toluca is at 8,800 feet above sea level.

I DVR'd yesterdays Inter/Dynamo game. Sounds like it was pretty good. I will probably DVR 2 of todays games including AC/Real.

I wanted the Barca game but for some reason the DTV website was broken for that match. So I missed the Rubin win.

Jesus, you don't even see elevation like that east of the Rockies. That qualified DC for the quarterfinals I believe?

Hell, you don't see elevation like that even in the Rockies (at least not where you'd be playing big-time soccer games - not exactly a lot of large population centers up at 9,000 feet).

DCU needs help to advance. They need San Juan Jabloteh, the worst team in the group, to beat or tie Marathon on Thursday. Had DCU lost at Toluca, however, they would have been out.

Jabloteh is the worst team in the group (5 games, 5 losses, -11 GD), but they're at home and they've faired far better there than on the road - staying within a goal of DC and Toluca...

For other MLS sides, Columbus is through to the knockout stage. Houston needs to win big against the worst team in their group, and they also need Pachuca (who is already through) to win over the 2nd place team, Arabe Unido. Houston is 3 points back and 4 goals back in GD.

Yeah, I guess when you don't have to escape malaria invested lowlands, nobody is really in a hurry to live a mile and half up in the air.

Looking at it now, the highest 'major' population centers in the US are Santa Fe, NM, at 7,000 feet and Laramie, WY (7,163).

I can't imagine playing for DCU at sea level and then having to play at nearly 9,000 feet.

Also pure class from the blue half of Glasgow:

I guess its no suprise from a fan base that openly supports the BNP.

If you're a Celtic supporter (and I forget if you are) pointing out racism, bigotry or sectarianism, that's quaint.

Celtic are the "good" bigots. Rangers are the "bad" bigots. Supporting the IRA is much more moral than supporting the BNP. I understand how it works. It's the same on both the inside OR the outside of that glass house.

Where did I say Celtic's $%^& smelled like roses? Celtic has plenty of skeletons in its closet but this is just out and out racism that has no relation to political sectarianism or clash divisions and this is something you find in the BNP vote pretty frequently.

I'm not of Irish or Scottish ancestry so I have no real stake in this, but the IRA's militant wing was horrible and so is the "Up the 'ra" chant", but at least theres some historical weight behind it. What possible reason do you have to drop n-bombs and monkey chants on a black american?

They're still mad about that "Don't want the Irish" crack in Blazing Saddles??
