Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Arsenal's second goal was apparently brutal, involving an Arsenal foul on the keeper, an Arsenal handball, and Arsenal being offside.

That's a whole mess of failure for a referee.

That's hilariously awful.

I didn't see a foul on the keeper.

The offsides looks to be on a slight deflection, which would be easy for both the AR and the referee to miss. Absent the deflection, the goal is onside as the guy who finishes the play starts behind the ball.

The camera angle on the YouTube is too far out to assess handling.

Sounds like the second Arsenal goal was certainly questionable. As was the second Liege goal, where there was little or no actual contact on the penalty call, and any contact was likely outside the box. I guess the two kind of balance out at the end of the day.

The guy in the box ran right into the keeper. It's a pretty easy call to make and I don't think many people would have a problem if the call was made.

The deflection was easy to see in slow motion, though at game speed, might be tough. That being said, it's another notch in the belt of those people who want an official behind each net targeted on the box.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Anticlimactic match between Barca and Inter today, I thought. Samuel and Lucio and Chivu all played solid defense to limit Barca's chances.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Also, although the contact on the Standard penalty was very close to the edge of the box, I think it was inside the penalty area, and it's certainly understandable for it to be called a penalty as Jovanovic went down inside the line.

Just a clarification on that last statement. I always thought it only mattered where the contact was, not whether the resulting fall of the player was inside or outside the box. Are you saying the fact that the player falls inside the box, even if contact was made outside, plays into the decision of whether it's a penalty or not?

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

I know that ESPN gets the sloppy seconds (thirds) for PL matches, but why is it that every match I've seen them televise has been with Burnley?

Not that I'm complaining, I have nothing against Burnley, but you'd think that they'd be among the LAST teams in the Prem League that ESPN would ever get a boner for...

I'm saying that in certain circumstances, where the player falls may influence the ref, even if it isn't what determines whether it's a DFK outside the box or a penalty.

I think kickoff time may have something to do with it... it was the only early game today.

1-1 at the break in the Derby.

Rooney scored early, but then Man. City answered about 15' in. 2nd half just starting...

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

dang...

Fletcher heads another in in the 81'

3-2 United.

United has dominated since City scored, and deserves to be up.

Now City needs to respond...again

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Michael Owen scores in the 96'.

4-3 United will win.

There was only supposed to be 4 minutes of stoppage time. I have no idea what happened with the extra minutes of stoppage. The ref had about a half dozen chances to blow the whistle, but he must have had a bet on United.

Ultimately, United deserves the 3 points, but City got screwed.

Sigh...great Derby.
