World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

As for the US, let's look at our last few meaningful games...

We play sloppy and barely hold on against T&T.
We have to come from behind to beat El Salvador after falling behind early, and then turtle the last 15-20 minutes to barely hold on.

Both of those two games were against inferior competition that we should have handled easily.
The El Salvador game was closer to being 4 - 0 in our favor than it was to being 2 - 2. We didn't bring our finishing boots, if we had that game would have been a blow-out.

For all of that, this so-called "inferior competition that we should have handled easily" has performed no worse (or better) against everyone else in our region. El Salvador has not lost by more than one on the road (and we have one more point against them away than Costa Rica and Mexico combined), and T&T scored two goals in losing to CR and has not lost at home to anyone else.

We start strong against Brazil and are up 2-0 at half, and then we turtle and get pounded in the 2nd half against a Brazilian side that wasn't even playing its best football.
If that's not their best football, then their best would be truly frightening. That's the same Brazil team that steamrolled Italy 3 - 0 in group play. They are a very, very good team.

El Salvador had a few solid opportunities in the last 15-20 minutes after the Altidore goal that wasn't. It could have just as easily been a 4-4 game had everyone capitalized on their opportunities.

In comparison to what we will (most likely) face at the World Cup, El Salvador and T&T are inferior competition. If we want to be a team that advances far in the World Cup, we should handle those teams easily. Otherwise, we should just settle for being one of the best teams in our region, celebrate making the World Cup, and then mail it in in 2010.

Agreed about Brazil, their best truly would have been frightening. Brazil did not play as good as they were capable of, and we still got throttled in the 2nd half. As for Italy, I think we can all agree that Italy didn't really come to play in the Confed. Cup.

Well, here we go again.

If you were frustrated by the process of trying to watch the USA-Mexico qualifier at Azteca last month (remember mun2?), you'll love the TV situation brewing for the USA-Honduras match -- a game that has massive implications for the Americans' World Cup hopes.

The Honduran federation sold the foreign TV rights for the Oct. 10 game in San Pedro Sula to MediaPro, a Spanish-based firm that serves as a middle man for coverage that often appears on ... pay-per-view and closed circuit.

So there is a very good chance that this vital game will not appear on any of the ESPN outlets or Telemundo. Not even the cuddly mun2.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Well, my one year good discount with Dish Network just expired. I called them up and haggled, but they seem to have become much less flexible on offering discounts to keep customers. Now they want a minimum 24 month commitment, and will knock a little off the price the first 12 months, but then we're on the hook for the full price the second 12 months. Since getting married in July, I find I don't watch nearly as much TV as before. The one thing I'd really miss is FSC and Setanta for soccer. I'm wondering about subscribing to Arsenal TV off their website, which is quite cheap, but I'm wondering if anyone has other ideas for soccer access online or elsewhere, short of paying the full freight through Dish?

Adebayor scores late to slay Arsenal.

SWP just scored with 7 to go to make it 4-1 City.

Florent Malouda has a late winner for Chelski at the Britannia Stadium.

I'm happy to report that Blackburn finally got a full 3 points on the weekend. Beating Wolves 3-1.

I don't think there are enough yellow cards in the world to convince Vidic not be a worthless human being.

And the same could be said for not enough yellow cards to convince Paul Scholes to ever ever ever tackle anyone.

Magnificent save by Foster and then Crouch hits the crossbar on the ensuing corner.

*** is wrong with the linesman, two horrendous offsides decisions back to back against roo.

It didn't matter on the second one, the keeper made the save and the guy who would have potted the rebound was offside the whole way and never got back onside.

But yes, the linesman has not been good today.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Btw, this referee is so vain, he dropped the w off his name so he could sound more suave, no joke.

Andre Marriner. LOL.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Vidic should have just been sent off for that head-butt/whatever that elbow attempt was. That was intentional.
