Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Its unlikely Honduras is going to get points at Azteca tonight (0-9). So the US will be in first with 2 matches remaining.

@Honduras (Oct 10)
vs Costa Rica (Oct 14)

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Is that Honduras game being played in a real stadium <strike>or are they pulling that Mazatenango bullsnot like they did two cycles ago where they dragged us out to some tiny ramshackle set of bleachers in the middle of the jungle?</strike>

I got my lines crossed. Mazatenango is in Guatemala.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

That was not impressive, but a road win is a road win.

The AFA needs to fire Maradona, like, yesterday.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

I've suddenly become a huge Uruguay fan.

Come on Uruguay, you can pass Argentina! I believe in you.

Oh and Columbia, if you're also interested in passing Argentina I am down with that.

Btw, I didn't realize why this took so long for me to figure out, but we're in for an atypical World Cup...June and July in SA is going to be cold wet and windy: England weather! :)

So far, both of the CONCACAF matches are tied 0-0 in the second half. If those hold (which they won't), wouldn't that be about the best possible scenario for the Nats?

74' goal for Mexico, a penalty.

1-0.

SLV - CRC still 0-0

El Salvador scores in ET!

1-0 v. CRC

Huge result in San Salvador. The U.S. now only needs to tie Costa Rica in their final game in order to clinch a spot in the World Cup.

4 hours ago I never would've guessed that the U.S. could go 0-1-1 (losing to Honduras and tying Costa Rica) in their final 2 games of the Hex and qualify without worrying about the other results.

Thank you Rico Clark and thank you Rudy Corrales.

And hell, this will leave a bitter taste, but thank you Blanco.

IF, and this is still a huge if, CR ties T&T at home, we can absorb two losses so long as they don't total a 10 goal swing between them.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

How did we get screwed out of a late throw-in there?

The whistle for the injury was blown after the ball had been put back into play. Ergo, the correct restart was a drop ball. (However, I think Aguilar could have and should have ruled that he stopped play before the throw-in was taken, and restarted with a throw to the U.S.)

Given the fact that no European team has ever won the World Cup when it was not in Europe, I'm inclined to say that Brazil will walk away with their 6th Cup. However, if there is one European side that has a chance to make that breakthrough, England has to be that side.

I'm not sure how well Brazil will play in god awful weather...even Brazilian winters are fairly warm.

Well, they did manage to win the Confederations Cup in cool weather in S. Africa. Saying that, the Confed. Cup isn't necessarily the best indicator of world cup success.

IF Brazil wins, it will be the 5th Continent that they have won on (N. America ('70, '94), Europe ('58), Asia ('02), S. America ('62). That would be very impressive. Argentina is the only other country to have won on two continents. Also if Brazil wins, I'll have to hear about it from my father-in-law (from Sau Paulo) for the next 4 years. :p:D:D
