Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

I was a little surprised to see Rangers creep into the second pot. I don't recall seeing them that high before.

Thank you Fiorentina.....had they not scored a goal to even things with Lisbon, the Portuguese side would have gone through and been in the second pot, putting Rangers back in the third.

(The draw is) tomorrow, at about noon EST, if I did the conversion right.

You are, and it'll be televised live on FSC.

I'll be rooting for the Germans, the French, and whoever is playing Rangers. Oh and screw Eduardo, not that the result would've been different without the scumbag's dive.

I have just found out I get ESPN360. There seems to be quite a few games on there. Very exciting.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

That is one hell of a trip.
Yeah, it's the furthest East team in the Russian League. It's about as far as you can have to travel in a UEFA competition, as far as I can figure. (Unless you were coming from further south, I guess.) Five time zones is a lot of time zones.

Ugly 1-0 loss is enough to go through 3-2 on aggregate. I'll take it. :o

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Watching the CL draw on uefa.com. Milan and Madrid together in one group. Sevilla and Rangers as top two seeds in another! I'm pretty happy with Arsenal getting AZ Alkmaar as their #2 seed.

Not that you can get a "good" opponent out of the top pool, but I'm glad Rangers has avoided the English teams.

ManU should get through easily, but they do have to travel to Moscow and Turkey!

Unfortunate. Rangers just got the "weakest" top seed imho. Hopefully that group gets a quality 3 and 4 seed.

And I'd love to see more of this. Diving is a much a stain on the game as violent challenges or off the ball incidents:

I hope FIFA can change the laws of the game to allow retroactive Red Cards in certain situations. I obviously have a rooting interest in this particular incident, but I'd prefer the procedure be standardized to kill the incentive to dive in the first place. You won't stop players from going down when light contact is involved, but this will hopefully kill some of the more blatant con jobs.

Huh, and here I thought only Manchester United ever got a good draw. You mean it really IS random?

Interesting to see Barcelona and Inter grouped together after swapping forwards this summer.

And Arsenal get Standard as their fourth team. No complaints from me.

I think with the new qualifying round method, which weeds out a few more bigger league teams, the group stages will be a bit more predictable. A number of the 4th pot teams I haven't even heard of before.

United don't have a tough draw from the standpoint of winning their group, but they do have a bit of traveling to do, and got the toughest Pot 4 team, Wolfsburg, last season's German champion.

Barca and Inter are probably the most interesting matchup at this stage.

Re: World Soccer X: Duh, duh, duh, duh...The Champions!

Group of death?
I don't think there's a clear one, as there often is. Milan and Madrid were shaping up as a possible group of death, but Marseille and Zurich don't exactly scream out Group of Death.
