Yeah, this wasn't a shocker to me. Just because they have resigned themselves to never being a completely free country and have decided to stop fighting/killing to pursue their independence doesn't mean they would root for England.
I don't expect American Indians to root for Custer when they watch Little Big Man.

I think it would be pretty funny if the Netherlands, the biggest world cup underachievers, became the first European country to win the tournament when it was played outside of Europe.
