Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

Re: Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

Buffalo Wild Wings
Phone: 802-489-5083
555 Shelburne Road
BURLINGTON, VT 05401

Can't say I'm a great fan of the food, but it's a good place for a group to meet~

Can't miss the place. It is right at the junction of Route 7, and I-189, about two miles from Gutterson.

The Women's Worlds In Burlington , Who's Going?

Can Tell you Who's Going , More then likely small crowds and no new Women Hockey fans..
The Location has to be one of the worst to travel to by Air ? Expensive and remote , but nice for the players and coaches..
Grow the sport and make the location better..

Well, I did happen to check air fare and it is definitely expensive to travel to Burlington, so I agree with you on that. Not sure about the small crowds as we ordered tickets a couple months ago and got seats in the end zone. I guess we'll see when we get there. I'll be the first to admit that I selfishly wish it was closer to my home here in central Ohio, but I have heard nothing but good things about Gutterson, and with Burlington not being a huge city, I don't anticipate the traffic problems you can encounter in the big cities. I don't doubt that there may be better locations for this, but I am actually looking forward to my first ever trip to the state of Vermont and New England. We're just going up there for the Medal Games. I actually wish we could be there for the entire week as I like to explore places I have never been to.

Hux, it would be cool if a bunch of us could meet up there, maybe Friday night when Mrs 86 and I pull into town. I'm all in! We'll have the gps fired up so we won't have any trouble finding places.

Re: Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

I'll be there on opening day for the Slovakia-Sweden matchup (looking forward to seeing Tomcikova holding down the fort) and the USA-Canada nightcap. Check out this link if you have never been to the Gut and you want to see what the view from your seat might look like...you can zoom, pan left or right, and there are multiple views (see lower left to change to a different camera spot). It looks like view 4 must be a goalie-cam with a slapper to the cage - nothing but rubber in sight

I'm sure we can arrange a gathering at one of the local watering holes....there are certainly plenty to be found.

Sounds great! Thanks Whoop87 for that link on Gutterson. With an arena that size, doesn't seem like there will be any bad seats in the house.

The only note of warning I'd have is that that area can be messy traffic wise during afternoon rush hour. It is right at the location were a stub of the I-89 dumps onto a regular street right in a mall type district. Not a good direct way to get there from Gutterson either, as you cannoy connect to the I-189 via spear street. Another note of warning....Do not speed in the area on Spear street just south of Gutterson. It's 25MPH and often enforced.

On the good news side, for the athletic types out there, a lot of great cycling and running trails, both heading south of campus along Spear and along lake Champlain. (One way to work off that Wing food :D).

Stopped in to the Gutterson last night and final preparations for the tournament are in full swing.

UVM is really doing its best to put its best foot forward with this and judging from what I witnessed last night, it will be a well-run tournament.

Can't wait for Saturday!

Re: Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

Turns out I have one ticket Available for Saturday, US vs. Canada.

Section 1, Row E

I can be emailed through here, meanwhile several posters know other ways to reach me.

Worst case, I'll be at Buffalo Wild Wings on Saturday by 4ish, likely hanging with Hux and DC.

Re: Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

I decided to go US vs Canada.
I park over by the UVM Davis Center on the Hospital side of Williston Rd & walk. It is much easier.
The last time I saw the two teams play in-person was the pre-olympic tour in 1998 @ Gutterson.
Look forward to the game.

Too far for us from Dallas

Its opening day tho!

Will try to catch some of the games and will keep up with scores. GO USA!!!

Re: Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

Well, I read that the attendance at the USA vs Canada game last night was 3,900, so it sounds like the fans are coming out. That is exactly 135 people away from being a sellout at the 4,035-seat Gutterson Fieldhouse. Cannot wait to see those Medal Games next Saturday. We will try to get to BW3 Friday night. Look for the weary travelers in the Ohio State gear (LOL)!

It was announced as a sell out and having been at the game, I can vouch for the fact it was jammed. I think they took away 135 seats from the normal capacity to account for seats taken up by the "Media Tribune" which is the press box but the IIHF calls it a tribune for some reason. Also, one of the sections that is normally the side the UVM students sit in is not being sold to the general public. It is a team credentialed only area for players, coaches, etc to watch the games.

As packed as the Gut was on Saturday, I was a little disappointed in the noise. I felt like the crowd was mainly a mixture of people in the 50s and 60s and then young kids. Even with the US scoring 5 goals in the first what...6 minutes? It never really got that loud and people were sitting on the their hands.

I guess thats the type of crowd though that attends these type of things and to expect a rowdy "college hockey" type atmosphere or world junior atmopshere was a bit shortsighted on my part.

Cause we were bored out of our mines. 5 goals in six mins. Call us when you get a game.

Do you think Canadians would be bored beating the USA 9-2? That rink would be electric if it was played in Montreal, Calgary, Ottawa, etc and the score was reversed.

There is nothing better than pasting your arch-rival. I wasn't bored once and was loving every minute of the complete and utter domination.

Re: Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

Well, I don't think it was boredom. More like shock...from both sides.

Suspect that a tight game keeps the crowd engaged a whole lot more than a one sided affair, so not surprised it was not as loud as you would have expected during the game. There was plenty of noise and American flag waving early in the game.

Re: Womens Worlds In Burlington 4/7 - 4/14 Who's Going?

I wasn't there , but I'm with Prez and thinking I would have been entertained, not the least bit bored and having a good time were I fortunate enough to attend. ;)

Also suspect Prez is correct in his speculation regarding a hypothetical atmosphere had the game been in a Canadian locale with game circumstances reversed. It's pure speculation of course and may vary from one fan to another.
