wow, who knew beating Team Japan and POE could have such an effect on the rankings

Suspect that the change was more due to the close margin of victory by BU over UWO. (They needed OT). Having said that, Clarkson did not jump over BC despite their romp over RIT, while BC had a tight game with the same UWO team BU needed OT against. You''l note that the Hurst also got penalizaed for their split in Mankato.

Still early days, there will be a lot of movement. Harvard and Cornell won't hit the ice for games until another 2 to 3 weeks.

Weird thing -- votes last week summed to 990, votes this week summed to 1045. Everyone gives 55 points, so it's as if someone forgot to vote last week. But there were 19 first-place votes last week. I think maybe last week someone didn't vote and the Gophers actually got 17 first place votes out of 18, not 18 out of 19 -- after all there's no way you can get 18 first-place votes and 179 points.

However you slice it, big step up for Clarkson, big step back for Mercyhurst.

well MN took all of the 1st place votes (instead of all but 1), WI jumped up one spot, UMD showed up at #10, all from beating Japan
and UND somehow jumped one spot from beating a hockey team pursuing, but apparently not achieving, excellence

UND opens the WCHA playing UMD & OSU
MN opens with WI & UMD

it will be interesting to see what the pollsters do with the results of that

I never understand the love that Harvard seems to automatically get in the rankings this time of year...and has for several years.

It is more interesting to anticipate the results than what pollsters do with it after.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2013-14

Did some votes fall on the floor?

Likely due to:

a) They went into sequester
b) Went over the fiscal cliff
c) Ran up against the debt limit
d) Had a pollster shutdown

;)

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2013-14

Newbie question, but is it weird that the totals this week come to 994 rather than 1045 (19*55, which is what you would expect and what it was the last two weeks)? Did some votes fall on the floor?
5% poll tax - part of the Affordable Hockey Act.
