The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
If Ohio state and Michgian win today that pretty much eliminates Western. All league winners would then be teams that are outside the top 16 other than Union i think.
Niagara, BC, Minnesota, St. Cloud and Quinnipaic all losing yesterday pretty much sinks Western's ship. Losing 1-0 to MSU in the final regular season game was a killer. That, and MSU's upset of Alaska in the 1st CCHA round finished them off. Notre Dame was fortunate to dodge Michigan but would have still been likely to get an NCAA bid without going to JLA. It's amazing to think that 3-4 weeks ago Western was considered a #2 seed.

It sucks that WMU will miss out and a team like Canisius gets in. But that is how the weight of the conference tourney has over the body of work during the regular season. I also think this is where a team's SoS hurts them when they bomb out late in the season.
yep, bummer indeed. Before all the upsets it seemed likely that WMU would make it, but this team should have learned not to let it come down to an at large.
In 2011 WMU overachieved and beat michigan in the CCHA semis to seal their bid.
In 2012 WMU beat Michigan in the CCHA championship to seal the bid.
In 2013 WMU lost to last place michigan state and 2 games to a hot (but lowly ranked) michigan team at home.
That's not how you get into the tournament.
Regardless, us WMU fans feel pretty good about the progress that our hockey program has shown these last three years. Murray is bringing in some great recruits and we have a lot of talent already. We are excited for the future.
Western was a great team and they deserved to play in the tourney. It's too bad because the best teams don't always make it in. Hold your heads up high.

Slubowski isn't going anywhere, so that is good for WMU. Otherwise- you are losing a ton of talent- DeKeyser, Witkowski, Walters, Leone, Warda, Elias... maybe some others that may bolt early too like Balisy. BTW- what happened with your goaltender, Pisellini? Did he leave or just never got any ice time? He was a senior, right?
Anyway- you'll be young next season and should challenge the NCHC. Hard to gage that league right now, but Miami, UND, SCSU are all tourney teams this year. Duluth, UNO etc. will be tough. Good luck.
