Passed up by the OHL and USHL....hmmm. Somebody knows something. Maybe he's not who they thought he was? I'm not a scout, but I don't know if I'd put any time or effort into him.
I still have a red-*** about Mike Johnson going to Notre Dame.

There are a bunch of players going to/at Notre Dame who would have looked really good in Cardinal and White.

Going to Gamblers games was brutal watching Anders Lee play, thinking MAYBE he could have ended up a Badger if Eaves hadn't given him a deadline when he wasn't ready. Maybe nothing would have changed, but that kid is a bull w/ scoring ability.

Good call. Great call actually. Eaves mishandled the Anders Lee recruitment big time. We were his favorite at one time and we ****ed it away.

During Game 5 for the Clark Cup my buddy would turn to me every time Lee did something great and laugh, and I'd just sit and bite my tongue at what might have been in Madison.

Jason Clark will end up being a nice recruit, no doubt, but Anders Lee would have looked really nice w/ Tyler Barnes and Mark Zengerle next season.

Just looking for options for the Badgers, since I'm a little concerned about 2011 in goal w/ just Rumpel.

Rumpel is THE man. Eaves will find someone to come in with him, but getting the goalies to have staggered graduation years is going to be tough with the current situation. Maybe Rumpel will be so good, he'll be gone after 2 years (a great problem to have), then we'd be back to the fr/jr set-up.

But, I totally agree w/MCR letting Johnson get away was a bad deal. He obviously thought nothing of Johnson and a lot of Bennett, which turned out to be 2 mistakes.

If Rumpel is the man, then a kid like Brady Hjelle wouldn't be the worst to transfer in, he has NCAA experience and staggers the years out, and can be there if Rumpel plays more like freshman Shane Connolly than freshman Richard Bachman.

W/ a freshman goalie, I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket, as a fan.

As for B^2, he wasn't too bad the first half of the season, but following his injury, he was just terrible. Maybe he'll push Goody for the starting job this season and impress all of us, but if not I'm glad to have TWO options.

I think Bennetts injury was worse than let on. I think Bennett may have had surgery after the season to correct it. This would explain his poor play post injury. He should be fine again next year.

I really wouldn't have expected a 15-year old goalie to be chosen in the USHL Draft. I don't follow the OHL enough to know if any/many 15 year old goalies are selected...

Chuck, any info on the kid from Madison, Nick Schreiter. I know he's a few years out but this camp seems to be quit an elite group. Some impressive names on the coaching end of this camp too.

Yeah, he's actually an Eau Claire kid playing for the Caps. Played Tier1 Bantams last year for the Caps and is going to play high school for Eau Claire North (or so I've been told). Very young, but someone to keep an eye on.

Edit: Forgot to add that Bill Howard was the head coach of his Bantam team this season, so yeah...he's had some good coaching.

Any word on this new recruit? Morgan Zulinick a 2012 forward recruit.

Well thats surprisingly awesome. Kid is an elite talent out of Western Canada, went in the third round of the WHL Bantam draft last season. Drafted by the Edmonton Oil Kings. Performed well at camp. Sounds like an awesome recruit.

Anyone know how good of player(s) Shuchuck's kid(s) are?

Looks like the blue chippah Canadian pipeline is alive and well. Of course this kid must have been rather signed/sealed/delivered before Oz left.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: What are you going to do, when NHL-U, comes calling for you?

Chuck Schwartz: Let’s cut right to the chase, you’ve committed to the University of Wisconsin. How long have you been in touch with them and what about Wisconsin made you want to commit to play hockey there?

Morgan Zulinick: The first time I heard from Wisconsin was during one of my league games in Kelowna. One of the recruiters from Wisconsin gave my coach a business card for me to call. I am too young for them to contact me, so he gave my coach his card. My dad later on called them and kept in touch. The second time they saw me was during a Jr. B tournament. This time they offered me the scholarship and we planned to take a trip down. The fact that Wisconsin was a big ten school, and in a great location made my decision easy. The campus was beautiful and I couldn't believe the arena. The second I stepped into the Kohl Center was when I knew I wanted to play there.

Chuck Schwartz: What other NCAA schools were you considering?

Morgan Zulinick: North Dakota and Colorado were really the only other schools I had in mind.

Chuck Schwartz: You’ve been drafted by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL. Are you still considering going to the dub or are you focused on playing in the NCAA?

Morgan Zulinick: As for right now, I am focused on the NCAA route. I am also young and need some more time to develop. My future with the Oil Kings is not over; it is just delayed right now. I am more focused on school and would like an education.

Chuck Schwartz: I’m assuming you will be playing in the BCHL next season. What franchise will you be playing with?

Morgan Zulinick: I will be playing with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. I committed to them mid way through last season.

Chuck Schwartz: When you see elite players coming out of the BCHL like Kyle Turris, Ben Street, Derek Lee, and Mark Zengerle going to a school like Wisconsin, does that have an effect on a Canadian player like yourself considering going the NCAA route?

Morgan Zulinick: Knowing that other players from the BCHL makes me feel more comfortable about coming to Wisconsin. If a team was full of just American players, it is sometimes hard for a Canadian born player to fit in.

Chuck Schwartz: You’ve got two seasons of junior hockey before you come to Wisconsin, what do you need to improve to be ready to contribute as a freshman in such an intense league as the WCHA?

Morgan Zulinick: I need to continue to become stronger and faster. Off- Ice training is so critical nowadays with hockey. I know that if I continue my routines, by the time I’m 18, I will be ready to play.

Chuck Schwartz: ISS compared your game to Joe Thorntons before the WHL Draft. Do you feel that is a fair assessment and how would you describe your game?

Morgan Zulinick: I don’t think I play like Joe Thornton any more. That would have been a few years ago. I am a smaller faster type of player than a Joe Thornton. My game is based around making plays. I would probably consider myself as a play maker.

Don't get too excited about any kid until the show up on campus and even then with Auffrey and Nigel Williams, we know that don't even end well always. I'm excited to get a verbal commit as it means you are the favorite to land the kids services.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: What are you going to do, when NHL-U, comes calling for you?

I'm going to post the same thing I posted on the blog about this. It's hard to say right now what the odds are either way on MJ or NCAA for this kid unfortunately.

I talked to Guy Flaming from the Pipeline Show in Canada and he said they fully expect Zulinic at Oil Kings camp this weekend (this is legal by the NCAA).

I'm convinced he'll play in Salmon Arm this season, but I'm not 100% convinced the Oil Kings won't be able to lure him away before he gets here. We shall see.

Edit: At least the kid was honest with me and didn't say he's 100% into playing NCAA only to have him go play MJ a year later. Got to give him that.

Good interview Chuck.

My thought when I read the interview is that he'll play in the BCHL this year and see how he fares. If he's ready for the next challenge after this season he'll probably go Major Junior, and if he's still got room to improve in the BCHL in 2011-2012 then UW probably has a decent chance of getting him on campus for 2012-2013.

I was thinking the same thing, though I'm hopeful he'll end up in Madison.

Another thought I had, would Eaves encourage/want this kid to accelerate his education and come in in 2011 instead to increase his chances of being a Badger and not an Oil King? Not even sure if Canadian kids ever do this, I know it happens w/ USHL/NTDP kids (Seth Ambroz, Michael Mersch, Jake McCabe, etc) on occasion.
