How does value to his team affect recruit rankings?
I'd also rank Donovan as one of the top three or four recruits in the WCHA.
Lee #1
Donovan #2
Palmieri #3
Olsen #4
Leddy #5
Oh sure. Make me look bad by using details like that.Isn't Palmieri heading to the CCHA (Notre Dame)?
The same way guys like Garrett Raboin and Kurt Davis make all-conference teams even though you could probably come up with 30 other players in the league with more talent than them. If a guy is super-talented, but sits in the stands for half his team's games, how good of a college hockey player is he?
Justin Schultz immediately steps into the UW lineup as the #5 defenseman. AT BEST Helgeson is the #6 at Minnesota behind Fairchild, Ness, Leddy, Lofquist and Wehrs. I still don't understand how Helgeson is more valuable, or rated higher.

Anyone else think that Justin Schultz is getting the short end of the stick on Western College Hockey? If you haven't been following, Chris has been ranking incoming recruits for this season in the CCHA and WCHA. He started at 1 and is going up, so far he's at 9 and there has been no mention of Schultz.
Am I over-valuing Justin Schultz or do I have a right to feel he's getting spurned here? I know the NHL draft is a bit of a crap shoot but he went before Derek Stepan in the 2008 NHL draft. He went only 1 pick behind Patrick Wiercoich. He went only a couple picks behind Aaron Ness, and only 6 picks behind Cody Goloubef. What gives?
Take my comments on Schultz, and add them to Craig Smith. I know Chris hates Eaves and Wisconsin but my goodness. Yeah...76 point USHL seasons are good enough for the #26 spot.I really hope Craig and Justin see those rankings.
Your recruits are better than Michigan's and their halos are even bigger than those in Grand Forks.
I learned today that UW forward recruit Mike Mersch is accelerating his schooling and will move from the recruiting class of 2011 to the recruiting class of 2010. It sounds as if the staff, at this time, is projecting him to be around 2-3 seasons before turning pro.
There are now 7 forward recruits for 2010....Lapic, Barnes, Dahl, Little, Zengerle, Hartzog and Mersch. Paape and Strang are for 2010 or 2011.

Are you really taking the WCH "rankings" this seriously?![]()
Wow, how many of those are projected to be starters their first year? Probably not the best thing to have half of your starting forwards be freshmen...
Has his play improved markedly? I don't know much about this kid. Is he a sniper, playmaker, or grinder?

I have not had the chance to see him play, but he may be a little bit of all three. He is 6'1" and 198 pounds, so he should be able to hold his own in the corners. He was third in penalties (58 minutes) on the USNTDP U-17 team, so I would think it likely he has a physical aspect to his game.
He tied for the lead in goals with 27 in 65 games, 5 of which came on the powerplay and he lead the team with 7 game winners. He also had 19 assists, which put him in 4th place on the team for total points with 46. His average points per game was .71 overall and in international play.
At the beginning of last season I believe he was on the third line, but that may have changed based on how high his point totals ended up being.
