Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

If it were my kid I'd advise him going to play with the same linemates at the next level might be fun, but I'm not sure it would be the best thing for developing all around. Seeking new challenges beyond your comfort zone is what builds character and develops the person. And college is the time to strike out and make your own way and your own name. But that's just me. And my Red glasses.

That's good advice. We talk about getting out of your comfort zone alot in Boy Scouts, where I am a leader. He could come here knowing the bad year, be determined to lead the team, and help turn the ship around. That would be a nice accomplishment for the next level. First time we have agreed in a while...:)

People in the know seem to think he is gone, so I figure that if he happens to come to UW, it will be an unexpected bonus.

If he for sure wasn't coming to Wisconsin he would have committed elsewhere by now.

Boeser doesn't play with Novak anymore, fyi.

Waterloo plays in Madison tomorrow if anyone wants to go watch him. Heard he has a bunch of family members from Madison that will be there that are not surprisingly Badgers fans.

My question is if Wisconsin would have offered Sheehy and got him (as all indications were that he would have come to Wisconsin if offered), would they be in the situation now of losing Boeser?

Probably not. Wasn't the final straw so to speak, but it certainly didn't help.

sounds like a good opportunity for Badger fans to go to the game and chant "we want Boeser!"

also...leaving this year's record and the diminishing returns since 06 aside for a moment.

Does losing Boeser (if that happens) and Dvorak equate to Sauer's inability to land Matt Pettinger, Mark Parrish, Matt Cullen, etc., players of that caliber who once would have been no-brainers to UW began going elsewhere...I guess what I'm asking is (leaving coaching style and records over the past few seasons aside) whether the recruiting has finally taken a nose dive to a point where Eaves won't be able to help himself out of this hole?

If they land Jost and Fabbro how do you see that changing the fortunes of UW not only for their time @ UW but for future recruiting?

I don't know, but what I do know is that there was another recruit that was very close to doing the exact same thing Boeser did. Since he didn't, and ended up signing, I'm not going to say his name. Still makes you feel uneasy. All the potential recruits see what's going on right now. It's a concern -- how can it not be?

Top players have been going elsewhere for years, I don't see that changing anytime soon. The recruting landscape is much more level than it has in the past that I don't see any player as a no-brainer to anywhere. Recruiting doesnt stop after a player verbals, it must continue until the LOI is signed (or player steps on campus in the case of MJ). I'm much more concerned about Eaves difficulties in recruiting Wisconsin players as that seems to indicate deeper problems.

holeeee sheeeeeeeeeyaaaaaat.

That's foreboding news that another recruit was thinking of reneging.

That's all true...I think we've heard from one or two on this board that Eaves has ****ed off many HS Coaches in Wisconsin. I wouldn't call any in-state kid a given at this point.

That's scary stuff. Plus the comments from you and Almington of the disdain of HS Coaches in Wisconsin for Eaves. These are not good signs.

The question is, are the AD's and Barry aware of this, or even care?

you'd think Alvarez would care considering how much of a big deal Chryst is making regarding reconnecting with WI HS coaches for football...that's one thing that should translate across the board

but Alvarez may not know any of this because Hockey is so far down on his list of priorities from every indication including and emphasizing the quote in my sig that he made a few years back.

There's no question Eaves has tremendous problems and I honestly feel the only way he "turns the ship around" is *if* ALL of Fabbro, Jost and Boeser come to Madison and that other high-end recruits ride the coattails of those players

Meh, Eaves needs to stop worrying about getting the most talented players and start worrying about trying for find the right players. Right now this team is currently full of the wrong type of talented players.

The days of college team being successful based of a talent advantage over other teams are long gone. If you want to be successful it is all about building a cohesive, single-minded, focused, gritty team. Eaves hasn't had that since 2005-06.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I was just looking at UW's 2015-2016 forward commits' games from yesterday....Kunin had a goal vs. Russia at the Five Nations Tournament and is 15-12=27 in 41 games vs. Junior, College and International competition. Seamus Malone scored both goals in a Dubuque 2-1 win last night over Cedar Rapids. He's just over a point per game at 11-25=36 in 35 games played. Matthew Freytag scored in a 3-1 win over Lincoln. Tri-City has a nine game win streak that coincides with a nine game point streak from Freytag who has seven goals and four assists in that span. His stat line is 12-14=26 in 37 games.

Thanks for the update. In regards to Sheehy discussed earlier: UW would have had to offer him last summer for this last year or next. And despite Bucky's record, it's hard for me to like him better than the forwards put on scholarship for this season. Apparently MN wanted him to play another year of USHL as well, either because of room or because he needed it. (The latter is the best conclusion considering his production last year.) And I don't think I like him better than these forwards (plus Boeser, who was committed at the time) for next year either, considering how these guys are doing, plus their upside. I'm not sure where he would fit in. I don't think he does, which is why he'll be a gopher, I guess.

Also, did anybody go to the Caps game last night?

Were there 2000 Badger fans screaming for Boeser to sign with Bucky? My guess is probably not...

I was at the Badgers women's game, so he was safe.

I'm not sure it matters anymore. Staff has fumbled this recruitment so many times I wonder if they even want the kid.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think Sheehy would be more productive than some of the guys you are discussing. Eaves flat out screwed the pooch on Sheehy.

The main reason Sheehy is playing USHL this season is the Gophers didn't suffer any unexpected pro departures at forward prior to this season.
