Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

You're kidding yourself if you don't think Sheehy would be more productive than some of the guys you are discussing. Eaves flat out screwed the pooch on Sheehy.

The main reason Sheehy is playing USHL this season is the Gophers didn't suffer any unexpected pro departures at forward prior to this season.

wisko has shown himself to be the new UW hockey propaganda director. The team might only have 2 wins but don't worry everything is just fine. I wouldn't take ANYTHING he post seriously. He's basically Scooby's polar opposite.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

The latter.

Thanks, that was my original understanding. You guys may be a billion percent right.

Right or wrong, there's some reason they didn't want him, though. Maybe they just felt his personality wasn't a good fit, who knows? Have to see how it all shakes out, I guess.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Meh, Eaves needs to stop worrying about getting the most talented players and start worrying about trying for find the right players. Right now this team is currently full of the wrong type of talented players.

The days of college team being successful based of a talent advantage over other teams are long gone. If you want to be successful it is all about building a cohesive, single-minded, focused, gritty team. Eaves hasn't had that since 2005-06.

Yes and no...that team was one of the most talented teams you will ever see in college hockey. Something like a dozen guys skated in the NHL with Pavs and Elliott having been All Stars. The other team of Eaves that played for a title may have been even more loaded and lost to an extremely talented BC team. While I agree that a good mix is important, it still comes down to the Johnny's and Joe's as much as it does the X's and O's and a big part of Eaves/UW's issue have been not enough horses, more specifically one or two guys that can put the puck in the net at an elite level most years. Kerdelies with not much else, Turris and what else? In the good years, there are 2 or 3 stud forwards. In between we barely have one and some kids that may be one in a year or two.

I applaud you sir.

Boeser is now considering Minnesota Duluth as well. If Wisconsin loses him to Minnesota effing Duluth...

no offense to UMD but if Eaves loses Boeser in this manner I just don't understand what the hell is wrong with him and his staff...

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

... then Minnesota and North Dakota would also be losing him to Minnesota effing Duluth.

Did Boeser have an uncle play for the Sue or the Rodents or family living in either Grand Forks or Minneapolis?

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Cousin? That lives in MN I'm pretty sure?

Dan Boeser is Brock's cousin. Originally from Savage, MN, he played his Junior and Senior years for Eaves and was a Tri Captain on the '04 team. As a defenseman, he had 79 points in 150+ games for the Badgers despite battling a form of cancer between his Sophmore and Junior years. Brock would have been a kindergartner when Dan played in Madison. Dan was a good player, but he never really made it out of the mid level minors, and he eventually took an assistant's job at Burnsville while Brock was still there. He is currently in his first year as an assistant for the Chicago Steel.

Publicly, Dan has stated that he personally would think it great that Brock played for UW because his own experiences were very good, but he has little to do with Brock's choices. Andrew Joudrey was a freshman Dan's senior year which I only mention because Joudrey was a player who decommitted from UW (on the coaching change) and re-opened his recruiting at a time when it was perhaps a little less fashionable. Obviously, he eventually came back to the Badgers.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Wisconsin problems, IMO, are driven by in-state recruitng misses. This state produces good prospects, but Eaves guessed early, and wrong, on far too many players. Best local born talent growing and developing elsewhere--and not heading to Badgers. Recent past is a horror show.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Wisconsin lost a recruiting battle to Notre Dame for '99 born defenseman Alec Capstick who plays for Yale Academy in British Columbia. He visited Madison -- or was supposed to visit -- in early November.
