Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time
Defenseman Adam Parsells from Wausau West committed tonight to Wisconsin.

So...recruiting has been a little bit busy this week. Parcells joins Hurley, Frederic, and Mersch.
One might say it was arguably the most important week of the off season.

I would agree. Redshirting unrelated to medical circumstances is extremely uncommon in today's college hockey world. I think you might have to go back to the mid-90's when UW last redshirted a scholarship player that wasn't hurt.
The guys I mentioned (Davison and McGuire) did not play in a game last year. If you are one of those guys and the staff is on board, why wouldn't you redshirt?
The more I look at Andy's defensive recruiting chart the more I think it's possible Hurley's going to be the 8th defenseman next year, and possibly play up front if needed next year as well. If they bring in another defenseman for next year there will be 9 defensemen for at least 2015-2016 and 2016-2017, assuming everything lines up as Andy has laid out. Unless they're absolute wizards with scholarship money, that's pretty tough to do, and puts too many guys in the stands every game night. I'm curious to hear what others think about this possibility (unless you disagree with me).
You have to keep in mind Wittchow is a flight risk after next season. He's in a Justin Schultz 4-year out from the draft situation so Florida will be putting the screws to him to get him under contract. I'm sure they've probably offered him a deal right now in fact for this year. While I think he'll be back for next season, it wouldn't be shocking at all if he wasn't back for his senior season.

Wittchow and Schulze are going to have to play HUGE minutes next season unless one or more of the freshman step in and are ready to go, which defensemen rarely are. I think the incoming freshmen are going to be a great group, but it is going to be a rough season.
Jack Dougherty is ready to step in and play big minutes right out of the gates. I talked with a few NHL scouts in recent weeks who said they would take him late first (NHL Draft) round if they had a chance. Also talked to some college coaches who agreed he's going to be a stud right from the drop of the puck.
I also don't think people realize what Ford can do. That kid plays nasty. Going to be a fan favorite right away.
Schulze - Dougherty
Wittchow - Ford
Davison - Drake
(freshman) - Linhart
That's probably how I would start things for now. I'll be interested to see what they do with only two right handers back there right now. Wittchow can play the right side if he has to, so can Drake for that matter. Linhart is going to be really good at this level some day, I'm just not sure it's going to be next fall. He's the odd man out for me right now.
Definitely going be some growing pains, especially early on. Good group to grow from though.
And Keegan Ford doesn't need to score goals, if he steps in and plays solid D every shift that will be a great freshman year. I recall that he is built like a brick **** house, correct? Smaller, but a beast?

I have seen Ford play 15+ times over the last couple years. I have heard the term Mighty Mouse used in reference to him, and I think it fits. Plays much much bigger than his size and has a Sean Avery personality on the ice. He is gritty, nasty, chirps, and not afraid of anything. He is the kind of kid you love having on your team but hate playing against.

Hopefully not too much like Sean Avery. That guy gave away power plays like it was Christmas.
In the Wausau Daily Herald, Adam Parsells indicates he's hoping to play for the Gamblers next season and could land at UW for 2015-2016 or later depending on his development. I would think 2016-2017 is likely, as Andy has said, given that he's been described as "raw".
