Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Oh you tease.

I'm assuming that this is because of potential recruits signing, as opposed to other players leaving.

Must be signings as the only player left on Wisconsin's roster with any value at the pro level is Rumpel. Free agent goaltenders don't tend to have as much opportunity in the early signing period as position players, as there is only so much playing time available for goaltenders in any one organization. If you are talking about LaBate, average skilled player who is better off getting critical playing minutes at Wisconsin than sitting on the 3rd line in the coast.

Worth repeating: Tell that to some of the guys we've had go early lately. Jordy Murray (who was an entirely different scenario than most, BTW), Jason Clark and Brendan Woods, for instance.

I think Clark was sick of getting Gorowski'd on the end of the bench.

The team could have really used Woods this season. He wasn't a superstar, but he really made some progress in 12-13'.

Can't throw Jordy into that category for two reasons...

1. He left for Europe before the rule changes, which allowed him to sign in the top division league thereby giving him a decent salary which he was noing to get in the states.

2. Jordy actually played and contributed in his three years as a Badger.

Clark and Woods are basically what you see and get out of Brad Navin....a big bodied forward who was drafted hoping that he would develop into a power forward while in college. All three are more examples of the Mike Eaves system of "Making less out of more since 2002"!!

This week has the potential to be the most important of the offseason.

Got to be Rumpel as his loss would absolutely destroy any potential next season. Or maybe some big name signings for '15-'16?

In the case of Jordy: Hence my parenthetical aside.

As for Clark and Woods: I'll disagree with you vehemently on your take on those players, at least as far as Woods is concerned.

And I totally agree with you about Woods EoDS. Comparing him and Navin is apples and pears. Oranges might have been in the range of Derek Stepan comparison.

Still think you both are wearing rose colored glasses....

Woods Stats:

2011-12 Wisconsin 10 points in 34 games
2012-13 Wisconsin 12 points in 41 games
2013-14 AHL 8 points in 42 games

These stats have college 3rd liner written all over them. Mr. Woods should have stayed in school and got his degree, as 8 points for the season won't keep him in the "A" for long!

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

To be fair, I don't remember anything about Woods standing out. In fact, I don't actually remember him (for any specific hockey moments) other than the name.

Was hardly gonna be the difference this year or any year for that matter.

12 points in 55 games?
