Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Two Wisconsin natives invited to NTDP camp, Grant Cruikshank and Jacob Nielsen from the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals. Cruikshank is the son of Bonnie Blair.

Also, Dominic Mersch was invited. He's the younger brother of Michael.

All three have to be on Wisconsin's radar, right? If Mersch's brother is equally as talented as Michael, oh my.

Certainly on the radar. Dominic isn't on Michael's level, but he's a good player in his own right.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Dominic also has the Badger connection of playing for the Gino Cavallini's Chicago Mission program that has become quite a pipeline to Wisconsin. Two other guys that Andy/Chuck have mentioned as guys to keep an eye on are on that list.....Khdorenko from Detroit and Fredrick from St Louis. A total of 9 kids from Chicago Mission or St Louis Jr Blues which have been frequent stops for Badger recruiting of late.

And there's a Burnsville kid you seem to like them. Long shot for the team, though.

If you haven't been paying attention to the BCHL, and let's be honest, you haven't -- Matt Ustaski is leading the league in playoff scoring with 6 goals and 3 assists in 5 games. Langley can clinch the series tonight with a win over Surrey.

Usataski is the 6'6, 225-pound center out of Chicago. Kid is huge, can skate, can play in the middle. Obviously BCHL numbers are a crapshoot but I'd rather a kid point up points if he's there. I think Ustaski was thought of as a bit of a project, but his numbers are really starting to come around.

He had been averaging a point a game 4 weeks ago, but wasn't on the first page in scoring because he had missed some games, so up and to that point I was paying attention.

Kinda related for Chuck....are you or Tristar going to do a nice article on the 5th Q site about the Hawvawd/UW matchup?

For anyone, is Labahn too small to host the WIAA boys hockey tourney?

I'm not sure if there will be more before the game or not. There is already some info up on the site on the game. I'm happy we've been able to add some women's coverage this year, Nicole has been fantastic. I don't have the time to do it, and even less so with other responsibilities I've taken on this season in other areas. Having Nicole come on to help out has been great. The original goal was to do more feature-type stuff on the women's team to get some more light on the program. She's definitely done a fantastic job with that. Any preview/game recap stuff on the women's program is just a bonus for us.

Maybe some day we'll get real salaries and can cover both teams full time. Hey, we can dream right? (obviously never going to happen)

And yeah, even in down years LaBahn is too small to host the tournament. They might be able to pull it off if they did an individual session for every game, but not in the two-game/session current format.

Banquet last night. Couple of footnotes since these questions were brought up...

I may have missed it, but is there any interest in John's son Charlie Parker? I see he was drafted by Muskegon USHL. Chuck?

Last year around state tourney time Andy mentioned he is on UW's radar. I'm guessing just about every Wisconsin kid drafted by the USHL is on UW's radar in one way or another. Had a nifty goal today and looked real good at last year's state. Gurt might know more since his kid is in the program, and thanx for the link Gurt. I don't feel like doing any work today. Wish the sound was better.

Charlie said last night that he will be playing for the Coulee Region Chill out of Onalaska.

6 of the other seniors are all attending UW Eau Claire together although not sure if any will try to walk on with that program. My guess in that Fromberger (#16 -defenseman) would have the best chance.

Can anyone fill me in on the story about those 2 Verona players(?) not receiving medals?

The team/school has ordered medals for Seid and Cleghorn. The team is also having rings made and they are super cool looking.

NAHL; interesting. I wonder why his stock dropped. I'm sure he will progress!

Doesn't necessarily mean he'll end up there, but a lot of borderline kids like him tender with NAHL teams to get their pick of location. I'm sure if he makes a USHL team he will play in the league.

On another note, Oregon, Wis., native Alec Vanko committed to Mankato today. Thought he may be a potential low-scholarship option for UW if McCabe left.

Nicole has done a great job. She seemed to be fishing for info in the Hawvawd thread, I didn't know if it was for "work" or personal knowledge. I'm glad you were able to line the stars up and have her contribute. Thank you.

Bummer about LB being too small. How big would it have to have been to host the tourney?

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I would not complain.

That's a fine arena.

Well, it's awfully convenient for me where it's currently at.

I'd prefer that they move the Resch to Madison. It really is a cool arena.

Watched him in person a couple of weeks ago. He is the real deal, easily the best incoming recruit. Immediate impact.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Sorry if this has been talked about before. I saw on a previous UW recruiting thread that Ty Pelton-Byce committed to UMass. I agreed with the comment made that I don't like seeing so much WI talent leaving the state, especially legacy players, though I have no idea the quality of that talent. Has Andringa's kid committed yet?

I'll be pretty surprised if he ever plays D-1.

As Gurt has already aluded to, Andringa's kid is probably not going to be a Badger.

As for the Pelton-Byce thing...The Badgers are pretty tight on space for forwards down the roard. They don't need to take a chance on a kid like that at this point, who is pretty good, but not elite. I've already talked about kids like Trent Frederic who they have ranked higher on the board. There's a few other bluechip 98's that fit that same billing who they'd love to give first priority to come for 2016. That's not even considering the 97's they may have ranked higher than Pelton-Byce.

As I've said before, I like his game a lot. As I do with kids like McCormick, Baker and Conley. But there is a lot of talent out there, and not everyone is a fit for what the staff wants...we saw that with Tyler Sheehy. And I think the staff owes it to the fans to recruit the best players for the spots available instead of grabbing a kid because he's from the state or is a legacy recruit.
