Notre Dame is a 3.5 goal favorite.
Wouldn't surprise me.,...I said to the appleton family afterwards they needed to save 3 goals.....I don't think scoring will be a problem for them

Well that sucked. Really wanted Wausau West in the final. The winner of the Verona/NDA should win the championship pretty handily now.
That's hockey... as we all know.
One team absolutely dominates and a hot goalie keeps his team in it just long enough.
Hey, I'm a realist. ND should be the favorite tomorrow. I'm not blind or stupid. I saw how good they are.
But my nature is always, "Screw it. Let's play em and let the chips fall."
Anything can happen in a one game situation.

Out of curiosity, why does Verona start Jones (.902 save percentage) in goal when they have Cleghorn (.947)? I obviously haven't watched them very often, but it looks like Cleghorn has played quite a bit (500 minutes to Jones' 700 minutes). That's a pretty good sample size for such a substantial difference in save percentage. Unless he's only playing against cupcakes or something.
Verona has the team and goaltending to take NDA out.Not going to be easy but I see 1 great hockey game that's gonna be played.and yes I have a good feeling about this one.
Cleghorn is hurt. Our JV goalie is currently the backup.
Jones started the playoff games last year, fwiw.
Both are quite good and Cleghorn's stats were leading the state at the time of his injury. I'm not sure who would have gotten the nod had both been healthy.
They pretty much alternated during the season without regards to opponent. I believe Cleghorn started the regular season game against ND although I may be remembering that wrong.
This of course will come across as homerism, but I believe that Verona will give a much better showing the ECM did and I also believe that we can actually beat ND.
Notre Dame has some serious skill and are deadly quick in transition and through the neutral zone. That said, ECM never had any push back at all and while some of that can be attributed to ND, I gotta think that wasn't ECM's best day. They certainly looked better when I saw them at the Rochester tourney over the holidays, but of course they weren't playing ND.
One thing though... 7 goals on 28 shots at one point. Nobody's gonna win with a .750 save percentage.
Notre Dame is scary quick. Lots of little waterbugs. Reminds me a lot of some Boston College teams.
Verona has a pretty (very) solid d-core and a really good goalie. Stay out of the box and get pucks deep/limit turnovers and we have a chance.
/homerism
That was a sad showing by ECM. One of the parents before the game, I overheard this, said they had a great goalie and were confident they could take ND, so I was expecting something other than what I saw. So I'm not really sure if ND is that good, or if ECM was just that bad. And yes I know ND is good, but 7-0 beat down of the #3 team wasn't expected.
I really enjoyed the Wausau/USM game, best one of the day. USM goalie looked sharp, maybe if he was in net for ECM they would have had a chance.
I always go the first day to get a thorough taste of WI HS hockey. The stupid high school chants humor me.

I thought it was funny (and sad) when ECM students started chanting "We can't hear you" down 2-0 and the ND fans answered back simply with "Scoreboard!"
And then proceeded to score a few seconds later and then again a few seconds after that...

That reminds me of the Sat. Kato game for the women...we we're sieving Butters as she left the ice after 1 and a Kato Mom screamed at us "look at the scoreboard" 3 or 4 times. Whatever.....
Go Verona!
She is obviously unaware of the Law of Perpetual Sievitude.
