Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I plan on being there as well. The two early games should be outstanding. It's too bad they don't seed the tournament like Minnesota...NDA having to play Memorial in the quarterfinals is a travesty.

Yep. Top three teams in the state (for the entire season) are on the same side of the bracket. It's not like it'd be hard to do 1 v 8 and so on.

Oh well. Gotta play em eventually.

Agreed. That NDA vs Memorial game is going to be awesome. Too bad it can't be the final.

Can anyone tell me what channel I can find the games on in Milwaukee?

wouldn't you think it would make more sense for Verona to play the night game for a bigger hometown crowd.....I know a few who cant attend because of the day scheduling....oh well that's the way the cookie crumbles....I ll take Verona over Superior and then NDA over ECM.....at nite USM over WW and then Kettle Moraine to will win the night cap.....looking forward to these 4 games of hockey

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I'll be there tomorrow as my kid's school (Verona) is playing.

Good luck Gurtholfin (and Gurtholfin Jr). Verona came up to our (Mosinee) mite full ice tournament and cleaned house...closest game was against us at 10-1. They seemed like a class act and a good group of kids, especially #14 who had a hatrick in all four games!

Thanks. He won't dress as he was JV (freshman) this year although he was called up to practice (sorta scout team) with the varsity through the playoffs and would be next man to dress should something happen.

Personally, I hope nothing happens as I certainly don't want anyone to get hurt and he wouldn't play anyway. 4th line hasn't seen the ice in the past 2 games and only got a couple of shifts in the game before that once it was out of hand.

He's chompin' at the bit but I keep telling him that it's not his time yet. His time is coming in the next few years... just not now.

Great group of seniors and varsity players who are welcoming to all players - no hazing or bullying, etc. Just not part of the culture which is great coz I know a lot of parents with kids at other local programs and it's not always that way.

Hoping for the best for them.

Anyway, games can be streamed here:

The State Tournament could easily be improved by seeding the teams. I can’t understand why we seed the Sectionals and not the State Tournament.

This year we have #1 playing #2 in the first game of both the boys and girls tournament. Wish these were Saturday games.

hopefully this group can get it done this year.....my nephew played 2 years ago on the Verona team who lost to NDA on Friday....last year Verona gassed themselves on Friday beating NDA....have watched a couple Verona games this year and these kids seem very focused.....just wish they would use that 4th line a little more if not for just a 30 sec shift to give those top lines a little more rest...best of luck wildcats we will be watching ya

I don't see them using the 4th line at all unless the game is decided. They've been running things 1 2 1 2 3 for pretty much the whole year, so I don't see that changing.

Time to head out. Gotta pick up a van load of kids from school and the wife.

I may have missed it, but is there any interest in John's son Charlie Parker? I see he was drafted by Muskegon USHL. Chuck?

Last year around state tourney time Andy mentioned he is on UW's radar. I'm guessing just about every Wisconsin kid drafted by the USHL is on UW's radar in one way or another. Had a nifty goal today and looked real good at last year's state. Gurt might know more since his kid is in the program, and thanx for the link Gurt. I don't feel like doing any work today. Wish the sound was better.

Haven't heard anything about his plans for next year. His dad is helping to coach the team, so he's one of the parents I haven't had much time to chat with. He's been fun to watch though. Scores some pretty goals and hits like a tank. Super high motor.

He's going to have to prove it in the USHL first. I could see him being a role player/walk on type. Hard kid to play against, can kill penalties. Not going to be a point guy at the next level. Muskegon didn't affiliate him, so he's draft eligible again.

Shuey is good friends with the family so he's obviously watched a number of times. Especially as a Team Wisconsin kid.

Thanks, Chuck. I didn't know how that works - they drafted him but didn't affiliate? I'll do some research. (Side note - I bought a Carrier furnace from John quite a few years ago. Haven't heard what he's doing now. Mrs MCR had the hots for him, maybe that's why "we" decided on his pitch. )

Stillwell stands out. Smooth.

Each team can only affiliate a certain number of 95's, 96's, 97's. Muskegon decided not to list him. That was before I was hired.

I don't know much about high school hockey...would I be correct in my assessment that the side of the bracket with the early games is where the heavyweights are, and the late games are...not?
