Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Here's my updated projections for recruiting classes. 2018-19 should be fun with a projected 8 freshmen up front.

Hey its the Eaves cycle, nothing new there. Maybe we can get lower than this year.....

Thanks for keeping this chart updated for us commoners. They should double your pay:)

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Badgers get a commit from Kohen Olischefski from Yale Prep in British Columbia. Nice player. I actually watched him earlier this fall.

Edit: Here's a little background info on Olischefski. He scored two goals in the game I saw him play earlier this fall.

Great time for some good news. Very good to great get for the Badgers. Young Mr. Olischefski is just killing it (29g 41a 70p in 27 gp) as the captain of one of the top two prep teams in Canada. Andy was apparently there, but Oly was named tournament MVP at the Bauer World Invite (billed as the world's largest ice hockey tournament all in one city) where his Yale Hockey Academy team largely breezed through to the final and defeated perennial U16 superpower Honeybaked 4-3 for the title in November. Two other players off this team are committed to NCAA D1-- D-men Daren Rizzolo and Alec Capstick to Northeastern and Notre Dame respectively, with possibly more to come.

Another of hs teammates is Tak Anholt who is also killing it (2nd in league scoring to Oly-- 23 gp 26g 36a 62pts) and is heading to the Penticton Vee's next year. Tak played for the Northwest Giants in the BCMML where he was a teammate of current Vee, Dante Fabbro...

I guess you can never really tell for sure how they'll develop, but right now Oly looks like a real beauty.

Besse has to be a departure risk.

Never know, but I'd think Besse is a very, very low risk. You might have a little skewed view of him because he played nine times better in his MN games than in all the rest. He has a good deal of work to do yet I'd think.

Probably some risk with Wittchow or K. Schulze. Hopefully that's a long shot though, as losing either would be very tough on the Badgers for next year.

Caleb Jones will visit UW while U18 team is in Madison playing the Capitols.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

On the surface of things it would sure seem Caleb Jones and Wisconsin would mutually benefit each other. Jones would learn under a couple of very good veterans in Schulze and Wittchow and still have an opportunity for plenty of playing time, not to mention Wisconsin's rep for preparing D for the next level.
Wisconsin could turn the tables on the whole Keegan Ford fiasco and create some real competition among D men for playing time, something that doesn't really exist at this point. Win-win to me. Let's get it done!

Hopefully Jones sees all the former UW guys playing D in the NHL, and sees himself as part of the solution to improving UW.

I've got a source ;) that says UW has landed a quality F for the 2017, Kohen Olischefski out of BC. Kid sounds like a awesome overall player with a good frame to build on 6-1. It will be fun to watch him light up the BCHL the next 2 years. I'm sure more details on him could be found somewhere in the interweb.

Another nice thing about him is that if he's very good next year he would probably be in a position to come in for '16 if he was needed.

Wonder how Caleb Jones' visit went. Be nice if Tkachuk tagged along informally. After his hat trick against the Caps yesterday he has to like how he scores in Madison.

Milwaukee Jr. Admirals U16 defenseman Zach Metsa (Delafield, Wis.) committed to Quinnipiac last night. And no, as far as I know Wisconsin wasn't chasing him.

I do find it interesting when a young kid like that commits to a school like that though. Weighing that option of taking the first or second offer now or waiting for a better one down the road and risking not getting one. Not an easy game to play.

Maybe it's a good fit, a large campus like UW isn't for everyone.

So are you implying that Quinnipiac is some crap program? Because they aren't. National Runner up 2 years ago. Have also never had a losing season at the Division 1 level and are one of the top teams in the ECAC. This is one of the better programs in the country.
