Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Boeser had an assist and Opilka was really good in net....30 minutes and stopped 22 of the 23 shots he saw.

Opilka looked outstanding. I was a bit skeptical when I talked to some NHL guys this summer who said he'd be one of the top goalies for the draft, but after tonight I tend to believe them. I expect him to come in next year and be the Badgers No. 1 goalie right from the get go.

The one goal that was scored he couldn't do much about. His own teammate was laying on top of him.

One the one hand, awesome, on the other hand...flight risk....Hopefully Grunwald will be ready by his Sr year to carry the load provided UW gets 2 years out of Opilka. UW goalies generally don't leave early, but not many are high draft picks, so you never know. I can only recall Cujo leaving early, and possibly Carey, but we're talking eons ago.

I don't really worry about goalies leaving too early anymore. Sure, it happens, but I think you can pencil in Opilka for at least three years.

Boeser had a nice goal on the PP tonight for Waterloo, set up by Gophers recruit Tom Novak. Pretty nice line with those two and Tyler Sheehy.

In full disclosure, I'm now working for Waterloo, so scouting reports will likely be slanted more in that direction from a USHL perspective.

He has yet to even suit up or step on campus and you are worried about him leaving early already....geez

When does he sign his letter of intent, or whatever it is that ends the period we can steal him?

Chuck said he could be a high draft pick, I don't think the thought of it is entirely insane.

Adam Parsells was really good today. Probably the best I've ever seen him. He's always been huge but he's starting to gain confidence and is using that to make plays with the puck on the offensive side of things. I think that's one of the positives for him staying back in high school this year, he gets to be the man a little bit and work on his offensive game. He unleashed two lasers for goals in tonight's game that had the NHL scouts buzzing. He'll likely end up as a mid-round pick but his stock is definitely trending up.

Got a message from someone at the NTDP game tonight that Opilka was really good in USA's 4-2 win tonight as well. He's putting together a really solid start to his season. Luke Kunin scored for them tonight too. He kind of goes under the radar because he's a late 97 and not eligible until the 2016 draft, but he's in that top tier group of forwards coming to college next season.

Recruiting targets Tyson Jost and Dante Fabbro selected to play for Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Canada sends three teams, Jost will be on team white, while Fabbro is on team red. They are two of just four players who aren't playing major junior to be selected to one of the three squads.

Tony Stillwell is getting a couple USHL games this weekend with Madison in Fargo. As I've mentioned he's looked great so far this fall in the HS Elite League. Will be a nice opportunity for him to challenge himself.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Peter Tischke picked up a goal last night. Obviously not recruited for that ability, but it's always nice to see.

Stillwell had an assist in his first game for Madison.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Sounds like Tony Stillwell has been shut down with an ankle injury. I was actually at the game he injured it a few weeks ago, but he tried to play through it and it's not getting any better. So he's out for a while.

Adam Parsells got the boot in his game this morning. Took a penalty when they were trailing 7-2 and started chirping the ref and got an unsportsmanlike. Hopefully he learned his lesson.

Badgers have picked up a commitment from Joey Abate out of the Chicago Mission program. Sounds like it came down to Wisconsin, North Dakota and Notre Dame.
