Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Madison Memorial's Ty Pelton-Byce has committed to UMass.

I know we do have a lot of talent lined up but it seems we are losing a lot of Wisconsin talent. Baker, Conely, Pulver, McCormick, and Pelton-Byce are pretty good 97 birth years. It just gets me worried that we are losing a lot of Wisconsin talent. I don't think we offered any of these guys though.

All those kids you mentioned are pretty good players. They will also likely be 2016 recruits. Based on my observations, UW doesn't have much room for 2015 or 2016 forwards. Additionally, they had in Trent Frederic for a visit Thursday night who is one of the top 98-born players in the nation. If a 2016 spot goes to anyone I'd give it to him. There are also 97's still on the board that have mutual interest in Wisconsin that I'd take over any of the Wisconsin kids you listed. And again, that's not a knock on them. I like all of the players listed, it's a strop crop from Wisconsin this year. Doesn't mean the Badgers have room for them.

Team thread is closed, and I am not creative enough (nor can I handle the pressure) to make a new one. So I'll post this here (sorry).

Rumpel named first star.

Not to clog up this thread, which I do too much of anyway... But we could go for obvious player reference, like:

Wisco Hockey: Let's Get Ready to Rumpel!!!

or very obscure fact based:

Wisco Hockey: Daniel Cajanus, The B1G Finnish!

Ok, I really got nothin'.

Time to put on your thinking cap then, because we will need a new recruiting thread soon too.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Whoever makes the next one should put that scholarship grid (with the defense one) in the first post. I like to check this thread to see if there are any Minnesotans I shouldn't like anymore. A lot more manageable to keep track of recruiting details for only five conference opponents.

Hindsight's 20/20, but Eaves dropped the ball on a two-sport athlete:

Cool to see the video...but this is old news. http://nhl.si.com/2013/09/05/j-j-watt-hockeys-oversized-loss-became-the-nfls-huge-gain

I posted this in our XXVI thread: http://board.uscho.com/archive/index.php/t-105067-p-19.html

(Not to dis you Eods, just tooting my own horn) :p

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Just wanted to point out to Twin Cities Badgers that Trent Frederic -- the recruit who was at the Minnesota game on Thursday -- will be playing in Blaine this weekend for the Tier 1 playoffs. It's not that often the St. Louis AAA squad is in the area, so if you want to get a look at a potential recruit, there you go. Quite a few other good teams going to be there as well.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Wisconsin high school player of the year finalists were announced this week. UW recruit Matt Berkovitz is one of eight finalists: LINK

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Here is a follow-up on the Charlie Graaskamp story. Charlie left Eau Claire Memorial and joined the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL earlier this week. Here is a link to the announcement on the Greyhound’s website. http://www.soogreyhounds.com/article/graaskamp-commits-to-the-program

I noticed a couple of interesting tidbits in the announcement:
1) Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas said the Graaskamp signing “is another step in our development as an academic hockey program”. Is this a new tact by MJ teams to compete with the NCAA for recruits?
2) The release also stated that Graaskamp received a B grade by NHL Central Scouting and is the leading scorer on Eau Claire Memorial team. Central Scouting listed him with a C grade in September and he was not listed in the January midterm numerical rankings. The only Wisconsin High School player listed in the midterm (#78) is Badger recruit Matt Berkovitz. Graaskamp is second in scoring on the Eau Claire Memorial team. The article might be trying to rev up the Soo fan base.

That kind of misinformation is pathetic, especially in the day and age of instant information on the internet. If the OHL is truly superior to NCAA why stoop to this tactic? Superior entities should lead by example (producing NHL talent at a rate far exceeding their counterpart), not subterfuge (false information about a new signing).

Did Graaskamp even have many NCAA offers?

Did Graaskamp even have many NCAA offers?

Schuey speculated the other day that they hadn't been able to make a NCAA deal yet, and that they just got impatient. I'd speculate they would likely have made an NCAA deal in the future, had they so chosen.

Sheehy committed to Minnesota tonight. As I said a few weeks back, it would be either Denver or the Gophers, so, not too surprising.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Might as well close this one out. Any good ideas for a new title? If anyone does start a new one, make sure it starts Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX:
