Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

For Kerdiles, it comes down to his advisors and Anaheim if they think he would benefit more from being the top guy on a college team or 2/3rd line on an AHL team. The odds of him cracking the Anaheim line up next year are slim to none. Emerson Etem is having a hard time cracking that line up. I would be surprised if he left. Another year on a top power play unit and getting stronger would be very beneficial for him in the long run. The Ducks situation can also change greatly after the NHL trading deadline. But what the heck do I know....

Looking forward to tonights game and seeing him in the line up.

Keegan Ford tweeted he is excited to have his brother Jason join him at Wisconsin next year. He was a Bemidji State commit

All of a sudden, you only need one or two more forwards for next year depending if Hartzog redshirts and moves to F? 2-3 if LaBate leaves.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Last week, there was an interview on The Fan in Green Bay with the head coach at Adrian (this was preceding the showdown between Adrian and St. Norbert's). When asked for some of the keys to Adrian's success in its first few years as a program, he mentioned that he was partially able to achieve it by focusing his recruiting on players who were leaders, players who were captains. Doing this, he felt, was a way to make sure that the guys he had coming in were willing to be workers.

I thought that was an interesting observation, and I'll be paying more attention to that kind of thing when I see news about recruits.

When great character overcomes great talent it becomes a great story.

I've always felt that character is #1 trait you need to look for whether it be picking sides on the pond, recruiting, or drafting. And it does create the best stories. Think 'Hoosiers', Miracle on Ice Team USA, Al McGuire's Warriors and Jimmy V's Wolfpack... And let's not forget The Mighty Ducks parts I, II, and III and the Waterboy!

Good all-around guy. Can skate, pretty good shooter. Plays a 200-foot game. Perfect pickup right now for UW.

As a senior I think he led the State in scoring too. I'm glad he is coming, he is a solid player who will work hard and hopefully contribute as he grows as a player. Will be an overage player too, probably 20 or 21 next season.

Charley Graaskamp has left Eau Claire Memorial for the OHL, his agent confirmed to me tonight: LINK

And because I'm sure someone will ask, no, he didn't have an offer.

While I'm sure he believes he made the right choice for him, I don't like it when any player voluntarily leaves a team during the middle of a season to join a different team. To me it is an indication of immaturity and raises questions of character. /rant.

Agreed. Always finish what you start.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

anyone think he may have been some form of cancer to the team and maybe it was better he left????? Some odd for this time of year.

I don't believe it is that. Eau Claire Memorial only has 2 regular season games remaining, hard to imagine he could not stick it out. My guess, he just wants to play Major Junior. He is going to a good team that has 13 regular season games remaining and will probably make a deep run in the OHL playoffs. Hopefully they promised him a spot on one of their top 2 lines.

But, forfeiting your NCAA eligibility is only a good idea if you are an elite player and want a short track to the NHL. 2 years of USHL/NAHL followed by 4 years of college is the best route for most. Playing NCAA hockey and getting an education at the same time should be a strong incentive to veer away from Major Junior. You can probably play till your 25yo. The NHL is going to find you if you have the “Right Stuff”.

I wish him good luck and hope he is successful.

MJ's. Bah. Graaskamp is dead to me. Dead I tell ya'!

I hate MJ's.

Well, except for that Thriller album. That was ok.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Madison Memorial's Ty Pelton-Byce has committed to UMass.

Any word on whether he'll play junior next year?

Most around here assume that he will, foregoing his senior year at Memorial.

Depends on a lot of different factors, I'm sure nothing has been decided at this point. I'd like to see him go to junior, but I'm a little biased since it's the team I work for.
