Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Sheehy is not going to happen, fwiw.

Not how I wanted to start my lunch! Seemed like the right player at the right time, but what do I know. Can't wait to hear this story after he commits somewhere else.

There isn't much of a story to tell. If the staff doesn't want him, they don't want him.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Cameron Hughes seems to be the domino.

Correct. Or at least much more so than Sheehy. If Wisconsin wanted Sheehy, they could have made it happen. Heck, they could have made it happen pre-Ohio State. For better or worse, they've stuck to their guns. I like him, that doesn't mean anything. I loved Corbin McGuire at 15 too. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't.

But, at this point, it's not going to happen. At least from what I've been told.

I wonder WHY the staff has not been very interested in Sheehy.

Because unless they want to play 8 forwards and 10 defensemen next season they are going to have to get excited in someone other than Hughes.

Hold that thought.

Chuck did Wisconsin show any interest in Matt Pulver who commited to Air Force today?

Not that I know of, doesn't mean they didn't. Had a pretty good feeling this was going to happen. He visited either over the summer or early in the fall. I believe his brother went to Navy and his dad is high end police enforcement (maybe FBI?). Last two details are a bit fuzzy, but you get my drift on the family he come from. Very nice people.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

I wonder who the forwards are not named Hughes that the staff is looking at. I'm not sure they can avoid picking up about 3 grinders at this point if anything just to fill lines out and that's sort of a disaster in the long run

There's a 50/50 chance you'll get to watch him play 4 times a year, if that's any consolation?

Holy moly, I miss one day of action and wow the board goes nuts. Seems crazy to me that he isn't a Badger.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

The why though, or the Eaves is crazy/genus/desperate/stupid/arrogant to have 4 pairs of forwards and 3 sets of three defensemen for next season as a regular line-up though?

The first is mere curiosity, the second is absolutely panic inducing.

You said they are going to have to get interested in someone other than Hughes. As I read that, I was typing the update on Adam Rockwood coming in for a visit Monday.

I am easily confused. So they aren't interested in Sheehy as he his going elsewhere and the hold that thought was related to Hughes?

I remain pessimistic for next year.

Then you should have edited my post when you quoted me for which of my thoughts I need to hold.

Hold that though

Much clearer for the rest of use who are easily confused and distracted. Because I never doubted that they would find someone to fill those roster spots, I think that us fans are far more worried about the quality and not the quantity of players they are going to bring in for next season.

I still want to know what about Sheehy this staff didn't like.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Rockwood and Hughes would be a real nice combination....from there you would be adding guys that would fill roles and not much scholarship money. Hope the staff can make Rockwood/Hughes combo happen. Sheehy would have been nice....and extrememly nice as a flex kid that could come this year in the event of an early departure. The problem for UW unlike Minnesota that needs big numbers in the '15 class is that UW doesn't need the numbers in '15 as they have several high end kids lined up for that class.

Eaves just may be crazy like a fox in all of this. In many ways, I prefer having some scholarships available later in the process and sorting through who you want toward the end. There is less margin for error when you are lining up a Pavelski at 17 as opposed to Corbin McGuire at 15. Kids that were great at 15 may not be so great at 18 and you have a much better chance of realizing it at 17 then you might when they are 15. Then there are those kids that blossom physically or skillwise a little later and if you have every scholarship slot filled....you can't have a hat in the rink for that type of kid. Now I don't think this situation (needing 4-6 forwards and it's really 4 at this point cause if Labate or Kerdelies are going to bail in the Summer....there is really nothing you can do about that at this point in time anyways) is entirely an intentional plan per say...there are guys we would have gladly taken a commitment from that chose elsewhere. In the end, if there is something about Sheehy the staff feels will not translate that well to college, or they feel they can land kids they like better...there isn't much we can do other then let it play out and see what the end result looks like.
