Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Tony Stillwell had himself a day...

5 points for Notre Dame Academy against Manitowoc. And he wasn't even close to leading the team. It was ugly.

And also, check this out: Wisconsin prep hockey on Deadspin? Wisconsin prep hockey on Deadspin.

What a shock... Manitowoc doesn't have much of a hockey program.

Gotta wonder why GBND would even schedule that game.

They are in the same conference. So I assume they get the pleasure of meeting again later in the season.

On another note, when do we really start worrying about lack of freshmen lined up for next season?

I looked that up and now I see I missed it coz they're listed as Notre Dame instead of Green Bay Notre Dame.

My bad.

Seems like it was pretty close early... Until those goals at 4:19, 4:26, and 4:35...

I don't know about you guys, but I've been worrying about it at least 8 of the last 12 years.

Was thinking the other day, too bad the Steve Miller/ Madison Capitols deal didn't come together last year. Maybe Will Butcher could have stayed home for hockey.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Leon Bristedt from Sweden committed to Minnesota. He was a player I mentioned the Badgers should be going after for next year. Apparently it came down to Gophs and Michigan.

Committed for 2014, or later?

Ugh, another option gone. Is this one of the guys you were talking about last week?

No, it wasn't. Just saying I said earlier in the summer that he's one kid the Badgers should be pursuing for 2014.

Top 10 draft pick WHL. The calls will be coming.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Always a slippery slope chasing guys that have been drafted high in the CHL, but if a kid is willing to pay his own freight to come to Madison on an unofficial....you should be happy to roll out the red carpet. I like that he is a fan of Justin Schultz.....so at least there is a counter to the sales job the WHL will be feeding him about the "best" path to the show. This would seem to be a nice target as an heir apparent to Jack Dougherty (or even having them overlap a year or so).

When I saw his picture, he reminded me of Justin Schultz a lot, kind of ironic Schultz is his role model. Now only if Schultz would score more in the NHL......

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Starting to hear from more and more people that this Fabbro kid has a legit chance at playing college hockey despite obvious WHL pressure from where he was picked. His grandfather (Gerry) played at Michigan Tech and is in the Tech hall of fame. Fabbro also serves on "MTU’s Hockey Advisory Council, and is a major contributor and supporter of the hockey program."

Fabbro's sister also plays college soccer on scholarship in the U.S. at (I believe) Austin Peay.

It also sounds like this kid is the real deal. Supposed to be one of the best to come out of British Columbia in a while.

very cool! I hope he ends up in Madison!

...maybe they'll trot out those tired old banners no-one likes in order to impress the kid w/6 NCAA Championships etc;)

Just imagine if he went to UMD because he wanted to go to a place with Championship tradition

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

18 years in Branch/Whitelaw and Valders high school. Small world.

Small world indeed. My grandparents grew up in Valders, and my grandfather was a janitor at the High School for a long time, though they didn't play hockey at UW (feel like I needed to keep this relevant :) )

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Any thoughts on wisconsin natives like Cliff Watson, Cooper Watson, Tristan Rostagno, CJ Eick choosing Michigan Tech? I know Cliff is a special case and Eick probably wasn't on Wisconsin's radar but how does WI lose out on the Watson guys and Rostagno?
