Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Mr. Pavelski....I've never seen an article about an athlete that called a player Mr. LOL Great article.

Until a few years ago, the Wall Street Journal used the appellation Monsieur. Too bad they don't still do that.

So its Pavs vs Burish. Who are you all rooting for? I have an extreme distain for IL (almost as much as I have for rodentsota), so I'm pulling for the Sharks.

Let's go TEAL!!!!!!!!!

I'm a Hawks fan, so I'm definitely rooting for them...but for the first time in a long time, I'll be happy with whichever team comes out of the West.

I certainly wouldn't be happy for San Hoser if they win, but I will root for them at that point unless something particularly unsavory happens in the upcoming series.

Gotta root for Pavs & Heater if they're in the finals.

But for now...

GO HAWKS!

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Adam Burish is a wisconsin boy, anybody who knows him knows that, i don't know if he would have played for any other college other then U of Wisconsin.

By "Wisconsin", I believe he meant Wisconsinite, not Badger.

I can't picture Burish spending a whole lot of time in a duck blind.

I will say though that Burish is Mr. Badger and certainly seems to be a bigger advocate for the program than Pavs.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

I'm cheering for the Sharks because of the the Big "Polish Prince of Plover" Pavelski!!! But, I won't be cheering against the Hawks, I like them as well and really I'm just looking forward to a great Western Conf Finals, and will definitely throw my support behind the victor against the east coast bias.

I was referring to his personality, not his choices for college. Point being: Pavs is not-so-secretly a duck huntin', northwoods Wisconsin fella, through and through. As much of a beer chuggin' Madison partyboy as Bur is, let's face it, the guy is a perfect fit for Chicago. Pavs on the other hand... is it possible to imagine him coming from anywhere but Plover?

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Also, on the San Jose v. Chicago theme... I've made my case for why I hate both franchises. Both from the perspective of a fan of Wisconsin sports (read: the role both franchises played in Milwaukee never getting an NHL team) and from the perspective of a North Stars/Wild fan (the role San Jose played in losing the North Stars vs. the Hawks/North Stars rivalry). Neither team really would appeal to me beyond the fact that they have Badgers and the whole "mediocre franchise history" angle.

I guess I would pull for the Sharks, since Heatley + Pavs > Burish. If only since Burish doesn't play much for the Hawks. Plus the Hawks are captained by a Sioux. Yuck.

Honestly, of all the remaining teams, I'm pulling for Montreal.

I will say though that Burish is Mr. Badger and certainly seems to be a bigger advocate for the program than Pavs.
How do you figure?

As someone with no internal contacts at the UW AD and has never been involved in the Madison hockey community (beyond being a nutheaded Crease Creature, of course), I'm out of the loop there.

I know Burish has been spotted at the Kohl Center since graduating, but its admittedly easier for him to do so than it is for Pavs since: (a) Madison is his hometown and (b) his pro club is only a few hours away instead of a few time zones.

I didn't mean it as a knock on Pavs and you make a good point about proximity. That said, there was a lot of talk out of Chicago early on that he was yapping in the locker room about the Badgers and guys were calling him the King(or president?) of Madison. I guess he would sing "If you want to be a Badger."

My claim was based completely on my perception of the two.

Like I said, not a knock on Pavs or a comparison of character. I've just never seen someone take the role of "Badger" the way that Burish did here and to some degree the way that he is doing it in Chicago as a Hawk. If he had more talent, he would absolutely OWN the city of Chicago.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

As far as promoting the program goes, Burish also has the natural advantage of a mouth that's constantly yapping with the volume turned up to 11. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Can anyone narrow this down for me? It only makes sense that one of the Tech/UW series' will be 11/28-29 or 2/04-05 but I don't know which one, or if it is home or away. Also, you and UAA have 4 dates that could be your away series with them so I can't narrow that down anymore either. Does anyone know for sure who your extra non-con series will be against? I've heard a game at tech bc and unh but i've also heard you might host umass or huntsville. Last, does anyone know when your schedule usually comes out?

Please don't take this as name dropping. I just happen to sit in the parent's section and Mr. Geoffrion mentioned that he'd be back next season to see his other two sons play against us when UAH visits. He didn't mention when.

Yeah, UAH's coach also said here that they'd be going to Wisconsin. But here we see that you are supposed to host UMass. So, unless I am missing something, either the Icebreaker doesn't include Wisconsin or the College Hockey Showcase isn't happening this year.

This season was the final Showcase.

Edit: I mean the Badger Hockey Showdown or whatever it's called. Our New Year's tourney. Is that what you were talking about or some other tourney?

I am speaking of the College Hockey Showcase which has Mich State, Mich, Minn, and Wisconsin. It isn't a tourny, each state plays the other state's teams. I thought this was supposed to be the final year and this year it was supposed to be in Minneapolis but it it seems really sketchy since it was already lining up to be Friday and Sunday games. I am thinking this will not be happening this year.

To say that Burish is more of an extrovert than pretty much everyone else (especially Pavs) would be an understatement. I've never met an actual Badger, or even one of their parents or relatives (unless those are actual Suters that run the register at Gold Medal Sports), and even I could tell you that.

Ah yes, the Showcase. Sorry, but I brain-farted there. As far as I know, it's still on this year but its days are numbered. Someone will be along soon who can give you a definitive answer.

I saw on the 2010/11 schedule thread that this was supposedly the last year of the Showcase (as in next season is the last).

Also, the Badgers get an exemption for traveling to UAA, so can play 8 non-con games, and I could be wrong but they should get one for the IceBreaker too, allowing them to play 10 non-con games.

Therefore (unless I'm wrong on the IceBreaker exemption) they should be playing UAH and UMASS Lowell at home, and finish off their games out east against BC and UNH.

As for when the schedule comes out...that is anyone's guess, UW is always one of the last ones, but it will be out soon since season ticket packages go out for renewal.
