Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

Re: Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

Great game. Two great teams.

Too bad the refs got in the way. They chose to play the entire third period with their whistle in their pocket. Then with 2 minutes left in overtime...they call a penalty that was no worse than a half a dozen others? Call it one way or the other. But don't decide to change it up with major detriment to one side or the other at the last minute. Pretty terrible.

Re: Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

Given the Badger men's bouncy-ball game at 11:30, does anyone have good parking suggestions without having to walk a mile?

It's already half time for BB and it's only 12:30. I can almost guarantee that Lot 91 should be clear and open by 2:00 or so. That's my best recommendation for free, close parking (at least it was last night).

Today's game is also sold out. Seen some fans (mostly casual Badger fans) griping on-line about showing up to the arena only to find it's sold out. For series against Minnesota, North Dakota and UMD, you are completely rolling the dice trying to buy walk up near game time. Best to either bite the bullet buying them on-line with fees or buy them at the ticket office days ahead if you live in town. Lastly, if people hung out around the entrances and worked it a little bit, they may have found people looking to unload extra tickets.

I think they called that one because the UW player was heading towards the net. The other swallowed penalties were just like that one, but they we're on a developing scoring play. Again, my angle was poor to judge, but that is how it appeared to me.

It's the number one reason I get season tickets even though I can't get to every single home game. No drama getting tickets for these kinds of weekends.

Re: Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

I played the odds and sat on the end where the Badgers shoot twice at. Of course all that got me was "treated" to watching two sweet Gophers goals and not really getting a good view on any of the Badger goals. Think I'll try for more center ice today.

As far as the crowd and band, I thought they were pretty good. God knows I lost most of my voice by the end of the first period and there wasn't even any scoring.

For reference, basketball game is flying by. Most certainly will be over by 1:30. Shouldn't be any major parking issues for the hockey game.

Re: Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

We have season tickets that we will be unable to use today -- if anyone is able to pick them up on the far east side of Madison let us know and you can have them.
Last night was a great game and we want to see another big crowd there today!

Always center ice...no matter how high up. Always.

I've got to say, I think the refs did as good of job as can be expected. The OT penalty wasn't worse than some other ones they had let go, but in that situation, with a defender racing back after a breakaway, it's going to get called nearly every time. (The number of people around me calling for a penalty shot on contact that wasn't even from behind almost made my head explode however).

I think Wisconsin won in large part on the goalie battle. ARD made some saves on at least 2 plays I thought were sure Gopher Goals. Leveille had a strong game, but as others mentioned, the rebounds were an issue, and a pretty soft rebound she gave up played a big role in the Badgers second goal.

I was perhaps most surprised on the number of icings by Minnesota, and usually in what seems to be stretch passes to nobody. I don't think I've ever seen so many icings called in a game, especially on cases where the puck started between the blue line and center ice.

The crowd last night was the best I've ever seen at LaBahn. Maybe not the loudest, but the tension was certainly there. Looking for more of the same this afternoon.
I do have 1 extra for today if someone is in need...

I have noticed that former players and players injured or otherwise not 'dressed' tend to sit in 'the corner', where you can see unobstructed the length of the boards and behind the net at the same time. Never tried it myself, but...

Funny you say that. Thats where I was last night, and Brittney Ammerman was sitting behind me for one of the periods.

It's also easiest for them to slip down the stairs and right to the locker room, which most do for all the period breaks.

Re: Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

I remember reading someone ask about attempted shots and I can't find that post - but on Friday it was 52 for UW and 41 for Minny.

For reference, UW had 99 shots attempted against Dartmouth in the Friday game

Re: Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

Great game, Wisconsin!

Gophers got killed in the second period, but made a good game of it in the third. Minnesota even today was not an easy team to beat.

Wisconsin played great, but the Gophers barely had any puck luck all weekend. See you in February!

Re: Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle

The Badgers were really, really good today. The refs were ungodly bad. The Gophers were somewhere in between.
