Wisconsin @ Minnesota 3/7/10

Re: Wisconsin @ Minnesota 3/7/10

Eaves is aware that even though this game has no bearing on the WCHA standings, the PWR does not take a day off?

Re: Wisconsin @ Minnesota 3/7/10

I hope that starting (and continuing to play) Brett Bennett is specifically in the interest of not somehow getting Scott Gudmandson hurt in a largely meaningless game.

I haven't seen this guy put together a solid game in like 3 months. Aside from the aforementioned reasoning applying (I hope) specifically to today, I don't know why he continues to receive playing time.

That is all. Bring on the Seawolves, I guess. :p

Re: Wisconsin @ Minnesota 3/7/10

Or he's embarrassed losing to a 7th place team that needs GPS help to find the net.

No GPS needed today. Just watch where the rebounds are being (amply) distributed from.

Was the penalty against WI that led to Minnesota's 4th goal a spearing penalty? One of the Badgers sent one of our guys flying with a really nice check - I can't assume that was the penalty. But, then the same WI guy turned around and looked like he speared someone on the Minn bench with his stick. Am I on the right track here? I can't hear the announcers so I'm not sure what the official penalty call was.

Re: Wisconsin @ Minnesota 3/7/10

I didn't hear the call but I think that was what the penalty was for based on Frank & Doug's assessment.

I think initially, the stick was inadvertently in there due to follow through on the nice hit. One of the Gophers grabbed it it looked like and was shoving it around (probably trying to get it out of the bench and not just to be a jerk - but who knows) and that led to the stupid penalty through apparent retaliation.

The PWR may not take a day off, but a loss here won't affect UW. They have a good enough lead over the teams below them in the matchups. Besides, the UW can maintain position by winning next week and one game in St. Paul.

I don't think a MN loss will really hurt WI as far as the badgers are concerned. Just giving their comparisons with everybody a quick glance http://siouxsports.com/hockey/rankings/pwrdetails.php?teamid=9 it does look like they're within a point of losing a comparison based solely on todays loss. and they're way too far ahead of BC i nthe RPI to worry about slipping a place there. Granted it won't be beneficial further down the line, but as far as just today goes, I can't see them dropping out of 3rd in the PWR unless i'm really missing something.

On the other hand, MN winning keeps them in the top 25 RPI and as a TUC, which helps out SCSU :)

Okay, thanks. That makes sense but I just wasn't quite sure. Again, I can't hear the commentary where I'm at right now, but that seems to make the most sense.

That was definitely a highlight reel hit though. He lined him up perfectly.

Huge save by Kangas.

Minnesota Penalty on Larson. Wisconsin PP. slashing on Larson.

Today doesn't matter. The PWR only matter once, and Minnesota is likely to be a TUC (not to mention the COp implications). Some coaches don't get this...some do (hello Jerry York).
