Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Things were already very interesting, but now there's more exciting/positive/entertaining types of interesting mixed in.

Didnt think the badgers had another in them. Played decent. Heard BA very happy with coaching staff :) Hope Kunin sticks with the NCAA game.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I found the game on channel 14 out in Dodge County. Too bad the channel guide said "to be announced" and not "UW hockey vs Denver University". That might have nabbed some guide surfers. UW did have that channel listed on the website and BTN plus also was playing it, so I had 2 different options to watch! Oh My!

The color analyist said one of the reasons UW only had 4 wins was because they did not get the goaltending they needed. I just about smashed the tv after hearing that blasphemy against Joel Rumpel. Clearly he had no idea what he was talking about and if you don't know what the $^@& you are talking about shut the %#$* up. It was awful to disparage his reputation like that. I may have to find that buttclown on twitter and tell him how I REALLY feel.

I was really hoping playing a recognizable opponent with a great history like that draw more butts in the seats. Bummer.

A lot of folks missed a pretty good Hockey game. Especially considering you could just walk up and sit in some of the best seats in the house. Who would have ever thought that UW vs. DU wouldn't draw?

Both teams a little tentative in the first, but also credit some good sticks and positioning by the Badgers to keep DU's very good top line from getting much going. A lot of nice defensive plays kept things in the neutral zone for much of the period. I didn't think Jurusic looked all that comfortable in net for the first half of the game, had some trouble with positioning and fought the puck a little, giving up some rebounds that fortunately were cleared by the Badgers.

I thought our D played one their best games in their own zone so far. I hate to say it but both DU EV goals were the result of Rockwood getting beat off the wall to the net. Getting beat is maybe too kind as he was 20 feet behind both times. The first was a very long shift and I think maybe he went deep in the corner expecting the puck to come out, but it didn't. Tischke was caught in no man's land and Jurusic was hung out. Same thing happened again on the 2nd ev goal. Agree that Jurusic needs to make a more aggressive play both times, but we knew that he has a tendency to sit back in his crease. Maybe a good lesson there for a couple Badgers. Rocky's two assists and Jurusic with a couple of big stops late make it hard to be too rough on them. I don't think Tischke really made bad plays either time and certainly much better than when he gave one up against UND by being caught flat. And Tischke did just eat up the ice on that DU break out. Kid's got some wheels.

I expect DU to come out blazing tonight, but so should Bucky. These guys want a win. Badgers shore up a few of the mental errors in their own zone, get a little crowd support, and inspiration from the '81 boys, and maybe they can get a big win tonight.

Let's Go Red!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Stick tap to the '81 boys tonight who were arguably part of the greatest moment in Badger Hockey history. Nobody gave them much chance but after chopping down the East and Central champs on the way to the final, they jumped the heavily favored #1 ranked Gophers out of the gate in a title game that was never close. It was a joy to watch them play. Thanks for everything, boys.

6 IS GREATER than 5.

Is anyone else having issues with the btn+ stream? It hasn't started yet for me.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Man, when you can hear Phil's voice when he is starting the cheers, it is sad.

Also, the student section can't even seem to sustain any cheers with any sort of volume.

Still, I am glad to be able to make it up for a game with my girls.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Lets face facts. The Badgers had been playing fairly well albeit with mixed results until gwhinwi showed up at the Kohl Center.

Also, one more time for the '81 boys:

****it, you are definitely right about that.

I've got to hope that the Women's team doesn't suffer the same curse later today.

Sidenote: I did get run into KaMiGo during the 'chuck-a-puck' at the end of the game and he's not nearly as awful as I would have thought.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Who would have ever thought that UW vs. DU wouldn't draw?

Probably the same people who were predicting this as early as 2009, which at least saves them the effort of asking such senseless questions six years later.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Besse was shaken up pretty badly late in the game (the hit that led to the major penalty), in case anyone missed that.

Wow, thanks for that glowing assessment

I'm glad the ladies held up their end of the deal and gave you a W on Sunday.
